Overview

HEL-COR® Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP)

HEL-COR is Contech’s standard corrugated metal pipe (CMP) that can provide a service life of over 100 years. HEL-COR is available in a large variety of materials, coatings, and sizes to meet site specific needs, and HEL-COR’s continuous locked seams and annular corrugated ends allow for a variety of standard couplings to be used.

CMP Pipe for Storm Sewers, Culverts, Small Bridges, and Stormwater Systems

HEL-COR helically corrugated metal pipe provides the power to withstand severe environmental conditions and burial depths associated with culverts, storm sewers, and stormwater detention systems.

HEL-COR service life exceeds 100 years with proper specification that meets all AASHTO and ASTM pipe specifications, and it can handle fill heights in excess of 100 feet.

A wide choice of coatings including galvanized steel, aluminized steel type 2 (ALT2), and polymer-coated steel are available to meet a variety of durability requirements. A variety of wall thicknesses (gages), corrugations, diameters, and pipe section lengths permit a choice of materials to meet specific job site requirements.

Standard fittings include tees, wyes, elbows, saddle branches, reducers and manifolds for detention systems. Manholes and catch basins can be fabricated to meet specific job requirements.

HEL-COR is manufactured with continuous locked seams with annular corrugated ends enabling the use of a variety of standard couplings including soil-tight HUGGER® Bands and QUICK STAB® Joints.

HEL-COR Pipe Coatings
  • Galvanized Steel - Pipe made from steel coated with zinc to extend service life. The most widely used and most economical metallic coating for corrugated steel pipe.
  • Aluminized Steel™ Type 2 - Pipe made from steel that has been hot-dipped in commercially pure aluminum; offers 75 years or more of maintenance free service life.
  • Polymer Coated - Pipe made from steel with a heavy-gage polymer coating; protects against abrasion and corrosion to provide at least 100 years of service life with a guaranteed 80-years “add-on” according to the 2012 Polymer Coated CSP Study performed by the NCSPA.
  • Asphalt Coated - Steel pipe coated with asphalt for prolonged service life; and can also be used to improve hydraulics.
HEL-COR Pipe Properties
  • Diameter range 12” - 144”
  • Wall thicknesses of 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 and 8 gage
  • Available with helical or annular corrugations
  • 1-1/2” x 1/4” and 2-2/3” x 1/2” corrugations for economical and efficient metal use in small diameters

Applications
CMP for Culverts, Canals and Ditch Enclosures

Our corrugated steel pipe is the most durable, economic, and widely chosen material for most culverts.

ULTRA FLO for Storm Sewers

No other type of drainage structure offers the range of structural strength that’s available with ULTRA FLO - which continues to perform where rigid pipe fails. We offer coatings and linings that will provide a minimum of 75-year service life for most soil/water conditions. ULTRA FLO provides a Manning’s “n” = 0.012, equal to concrete pipe and other smooth wall drainage products. There are custom fittings and coatings to meet your project needs.

CMP Stormwater Detention Systems

CMP stormwater detention systems store stormwater runoff exceeding a site’s allowable discharge rate and release it slowly over time. Installed below grade, stormwater detention systems maximize land usage and help meet water quantity requirements.

CMP for Stormwater Infiltration

Perforated CMP infiltration systems store stormwater runoff in the pipe and surrounding stone during a storm until it can be slowly released into the surrounding native soil. Perforated CMP is often used to meet Low Impact Development requirements.

CMP and PVC Pipe for Pipe Reline

Lining inadequate or failing structures with corrugated metal material or plastic pipe uses little of the available area, thereby preserving the maximum amount of the original opening. Due to the hydraulic efficiency of Contech products, often a smaller structure provides the same hydraulic capacity as the original because of the low Manning “n” factors of A-2000 and A2 Liner PVC pipes and HEL-COR and ULTRA FLO CMP pipes. Existing pipes and arches are generally lined with structures of the same shape, though slightly smaller in size. Rectangular openings can be lined with round, elliptical or pipe arch structures. Corrugated metal structures can fit almost any existing shape.

CMP and PVC Pipe for Rehabilitating Storm, Sanitary Sewers and Small Culverts

Reline drainage structures with hydraulically efficient corrugated steel, aluminum or PVC pipe. ULTRA FLO and HEL-COR are CMP Pipes available in standard diameters through 120” and 144" respectively. Special diameters are also available in both products. The PVC pipe systems, A-2000 and A2 Liner Pipe-used for both drainage structures and sanitary sewers-are available through 36” diameter.

CMP Pipe for Wind Turbine Foundations and Vertical Shafts

Contech large-diameter CMP is used as a deep foundation form at the base of the windmill. CMP is placed vertically to act as a form for the poured-in-place concrete foundation.
