At first glance, jackarches may not appear to be much different than lintels. Like lintels, jackarches typically appear above doors, windows, and other openings in brick or stone buildings. Both lintels and jackarches were traditionally used to provide structural support. The major difference between these two elements is that jackarches are composed of several individual pieces, while lintels are solid, continuous structures.
