Hydration Controlling Admixture

SikaTard®-440 is a hydration controlling admixture to control the hydration of cement. The use of SikaTard®-440 allows the concrete producer to stabilize concrete mixes for long periods without negatively affecting concrete durability. SikaTard®-440 can also be used stabilize returned concrete and re-use it. SikaTard®-440 can also be used in concrete wash water application. SikaTard®-440 meets the requirements of ASTM C-494, Type B and Type D admixture.

Shelf Life

Shelf life when stored in dry warehouse conditions between 50 °F and 80 °F (10-27 °C) is 1 year.

Protect from direct sun and freezing temperatures.

Storage Conditions

SikaTard®-440 should be stored at above 40 °F (5 °C). If frozen, thaw and agitate thoroughly to return to normal state.

Application Information

Mixing

Introduce SikaTard®-440 at a suitable time during the mixing process of concrete. Preliminary trials on site should be conducted to determine the required dosage rates. To optimize the stabilizing effect, after the addition of SikaTard®-440, Sika recommends that the combined materials be mixed for 80-100 revolutions, either in the concrete mixer or in the Ready-Mix truck.

Combination with Other Admixtures: SikaTard®-440 can be used in conjunction with all Sigunit® accelerators. SikaTard®-440 is also compatible with all other Sika admixtures.

Consumption

Recommended Dosage

Dosage rates will vary according to materials used, ambient conditions, and the requirements of a specific project. For normal applications, depending on retardation required, the dosage of SikaTard®-440 will vary from 2-8 fl.oz. per 100 lbs. (130-520 ml / 100 kg) of cementitious mass. For stabilization for longer periods the dosage can be increased up to 48 fl.oz. per 100 lbs. (3130 ml / 100 kg) of cementitious mass.
Concrete trial mixes must be conducted to determine the optimum dosage.
