Efflorescence Control & Water Repellency - SikaMix® AE-6 M

INTEGRAL WATER-REPELLENT ADMIXTURE FOR MASONRY MORTAR

SikaMix® AE-6 M is an integral water-repelling liquid admixture for use in masonry mortar. SikaMix® AE-6 M reacts with the cement, filling the mortar pores with a water insoluble compound that densifies the masonry mortar. This reduces the mortar's water absorption capability and decreases overall migration of water throughout the mortar. SikaMix® AE-6 M has been tested according to the following standards:

  • ASTM E514: "Standard Test Method for Water Penetration and Leakage Through Masonry"
  • ASTM C1403: “Standard Test Method for Rate of Water Absorption of Masonry Mortars"
  • ASTM C1072: “Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Masonry Flexural Bond Strength”

SikaMix® AE-6 M provides the following benefits:
  • Reacts with the cement to provide water-repellency throughout the entirety of the mortar
  • Reduces mortar permeability
  • Reduces water absorption
  • Reduces efflorescence
  • Improves color intensity
  • Provides protection from staining and growth of mold, mildew and algae
  • Improved shelf stability compared to previous generation products
SikaMix® AE-6 M does not contain intentionally added chlorides.

Usage

SikaMix® AE-6 M is part of the SikaMix® water-repellency system. SikaMix® AE-6 M provides water-repellency through the entirety of the mortar and reduces efflorescence and improves and maintains color intensity. SikaMix® AE-6 M provides high quality mortar and high quality joints and bonds in construction projects. When used ensemble, the SikaMix® water-repellant system will provide a superior level of water-repellency.

Application

Application Information

Mixing

To maximize admixture performance do not introduce SikaMix® AE-6 M to dry cementitious materials. Optimal performance is achieved when SikaMix® AE-6 M is added directly into mixing water. Alternatively, SikaMix® AE-6 M can be added to the mortar after the water has been added and blended. After the introduction of the remainder of mix components, mix thoroughly. Mixing time will vary based on the equipment used.

Consumption

Recommended Dosage

The recommended dosage rate of SikaMix® AE-6 M for masonry mortar applications is 8 fl. oz (237 mL) / 80 lb (36 kg) bag of hydrated lime, masonry cement or mortar cement. Shake well prior to use.

Trial batches are strongly recommended to determine the optimal dosage of SikaMix® AE-6 M prior to usage.

To the extent specialized materials are specified, extreme ambient project conditions are encountered, or other unusual project conditions require special consideration outside the recommended dosage
