Chemical Resistant Waterstop - Westec Epoxy Gel 151

Polysulfide-Modified Epoxy Novolac

The Westec Epoxy Gel 151 System is a multi-functional polymer epoxy formulated to provide maximum chemical resistance to Sulfuric Acid and other aggressive chemicals. Micro fillers and epoxy Novolac resin are combined with special “stress-reliving” additives to provide a durable and concrete compatible surfacing.
The Westec Epoxy Gel 151 was designed specifically to complement the Westec® retrofit waterstop. The gel provides a gasket seal behind the waterstop and has similar chemical resistance to the TPER waterstop. The Westec Epoxy Gel 151 System is designed for a broad range of applications depending on specific service requirements including duration and degree of chemical exposure.

  • Resists concentrated acids in immersion service.
  • Superior compatibility with concrete substrates.
  • 100% solids - Contains no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s).
  • No heat or baking required to achieve properties.

Technical Information

Chemical Resistance

Westec Epoxy Gel 151 System will resist most strong inorganic acids except nitric acid. It also performs well when exposed to aliphatic and aromatic solvents. It is not recommended for organic acids and chlorinated solvents.

Application

Application Information

Ambient Air Temperature

Apply only between 45°F and 98°F degrees.

Pot Life

45 minutes at 77ºF

Cure Time

Cure time depends on air and surface temperature as well as mass of epoxy.

Consumption

Coverage

Apply bed of epoxy at 1/8” thick. Coverage rates vary based on Sika® Westec® retrofit profile selected. Typical coverage rates are ~ 20’ - 40’ linear feet per gallon. Consult a Sika® Greenstreak® engineer for specific Sika® Westec® retrofit waterstop coverage rates.

Application Steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Prepare concrete surface by sandblasting or other mechanical means until a slight texture is evident. Blow off all excess dust and contaminants. Surface should be free of water, oils, and chemicals.

MIXING

Pre-blend each Westec Epoxy Gel 151 component because of setting that may have occurred during shipping or storage. Pour Component B Hardener into Component A Resin pail. Mix well using a mechanical jiffy type mixer operated at low speed until a consistent color is attained.
