Round Fluted Columns

Royal Corinthian manufactures round fluted columns from 3 composite materials: RoyalCast™ Fiberglass, RoyalStone™ Synthetic Stone, and RoyaLite™ FRP Fiberglass. We only use composite materials because we believe in emulating the architecture of the Greeks and Romans but with materials that will last for generations. In addition, we also offer RoyalCrete™ glass fiber reinforced concrete or GFRC columns for those that desire a segmented cast stone look. If you know which material is most suitable for you, the charts below offer sizes and other pertinent information.

Our fluted columns, which have tapered shafts, are available up to 36” in diameter and various heights. If you are needing non-tapered columns with flutes, we are able to provide those as well. The majority of our fluted columns come with a capital support ring (E) which holds the Tuscan Cap in place. Some stock-sized columns do not have the support ring as indicated in the chart below. Most manufacturers don’t offer a capital support ring on any of their columns but we figured why not help you with the installation of our heavier capitals by providing a ledge for those caps to sit on. When decorative capitals are used, the column shaft gets cut down to the astragal or neck ring, which eliminates the support ring altogether. It is architecturally correct for the decorative capital to sit on the astragal. Not all of the information in the charts below pertains to all of the materials that we offer so please read the notes associated with each chart. Additional information can also be found on our CAD drawings.

Please note that this chart is for Round Tapered Fluted RoyalCast Columns; RoyalStone Columns tend to be slightly thicker and RoyaLite slightly thinner. The chart is conservative and in most cases we can surround larger supports than indicated so if you are cutting it close, ask us to verify if we can surround your support. The chart accounts for loss due to saw kerf if you are using split columns. Split columns are no longer load-bearing. The ID of decorative capitals is significantly less than the column shaft so please consult our decorative capitals page to ascertain whether or not the column will surround your support. To ensure that the column ordered will surround the intended structural support, the column needs to be split by Royal Corinthian and the shape and size of the structural support needs to be indicated on the purchase order. Royal Corinthian will not accept any liability if columns are purchased not split and do not wrap the published structural support sizes. When a column is ordered full round (not split), it is implied that the column will not be used to surround structural support. If the contractor intends to drop a full round (not split) column around the structural support, the shape and size of the structural support need to note on the purchase order at the time of order. RoyaLite column covers are already intended to be used around structural members and are supplied as halves with integrated lap joints: They can be factory assembled but will bear a fraction of the weight of the other columns. GFRC column specs are available upon request.
