Overview

Bakko Backboard, Economy Flat 8' x 12'

Visually looks like 8’ Flat Slimline series. Designed to compete with those who build wood backboards. Each panel contains sound deadening interior (no metal interior frame) and is encased in the same outer fiberglass and gel coat shell coated with Imron paint. Three horizontal rows of pressure treated 2x4s (provided) are mounted to fence post. Holes are then drilled through panels at appropriate heights (instructions explain this) and attach panels with provided green faced bolts.

Installation requires more carpentry skill, however it remains very simple and quick to mount. Although not as quiet as our other backboards, it is quieter than an average wood backboard. It looks much better and does not fade, warp, peel or rot in 2-3 years like wood backboards. Economy series is competitive in price when factoring cost of materials, design and construction, filling, painting/repainting, installation and labor of a wood backboard. Economy series is often sold for driveways and backyards but requires mounting 2 or 3 standard fence post in the ground. Space required: Width of backboard and length of 40’ (service practice requires 39’, distance from baseline to backboard). Typically purchased by budget conscious court owners, driveways, schools and parks where noise is not a major issue.

Most common purchase size is 3 and 4 panels.

Specifications:

-Customer required to drill holes
-Encased in thick fiberglass and gel coat
Coated with solar and impact resistant polyurethane paint
-Multiples of 4’ wide panels
-10 Year pro-rated warranty on backboard structure
-1 Year warranty on Imron paint

Over twenty steps go into the construction of each backboard panel. Pre-fabricated panel concept allows virtually an unlimited size and/or placement capability for any facility or application. Each panel is 4 feet wide, 8 or 10 feet high and weighs 80 to 150 pounds. The backboards are ready for play when the pre-fabricated, completely finished, green fiberglass interlocking panels are affixed to your tennis court fence posts or wall. The Bakko assembly kit holds the panels in a tight, unitized, side-by-side construction. Kits come in traditional flat and single curved styles. All kits are complete.

Minimum adequate size is 8’ high by 12’ wide backboard (3 panels). Attaches to two tennis court fence posts which, on most tennis courts, are spaced 10’ apart.

Typically 16’ wide (4 panels) and 20’ wide (5 panels) backboards require 3 tennis fence post for attachment. A 16’ backboard, if post are standard, expose more channel and hardware. It is not as aesthetically pleasing. Typically 3 or 5 panel models have minimal hardware and channel exposure.

If post are 8’ apart a 16’ wide backboard can be elegant. 20’ wide backboards are very popular, especially in the 10’ high series. Bakko feels a 12’ backboard is adequate if only 1 person hits.

If occasionally or potentially 2 people may practice, a 16’ backboard is recommended. If 2 people hit and elegance is important, a 20’ backboard is a must. Schools and tennis camps sometimes purchase 6, 7 and 8 panel kits, several panels for a continuous wall.
