Tactile Warning Strips overview

Tactile Warning Strips and Platform Edging in Stromberg GFRC

Where do you find the tactile warning strips that are best for your application?

At Stromberg we offer standard and customized tactile warning strips and rail platform edging to meet your needs. All factory direct.

Detectable Warning Steps, platform edges and tiles

Detectable warnings provide a distinctive surface of truncated domes that are detectable by cane or underfoot. They are meant to alert people with vision impairments of hazards and changes in the walking surface.

GFRC Tactile Warning Strip Basic Uses and Limitations

Stromberg GFRC tactile surface products can be used indoors or out, for pedestrian traffic applications.

Uses
  • Transit Platforms. Subways, rail and ship
  • Multi-Modal Transit
  • Curb Ramps
  • Vehicular Ways
  • Pedestrian Crossings
  • Stairwells
  • Parking Areas
  • Escalator Approaches
Limitations

Some basic limitations of Stromberg GFRC tactile surface products include:

  • Generally not for use under heavy vehicle traffic unless fully bedded in mortar or grout.
  • GFRC has a stone and concrete texture for appearance and traction. Generally not for use where a slick, shiny plastic appearance is desired.
  • While unit sizes up to 14 feet in length can be produced, practical handling and installation considerations limit sizes to 6' to 8' in length. The most common size for individual units is 2' and 3' in length.
GFRC Tactile Warning Strip Code Approvals

Stromberg GFRC Tactile Warning Surface Products are:

  • American Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) Compliant
  • PROW and CA Title 24 Compliant
  • GFRC provides a pleasing stone or colored concrete architectural appearance.
  • High performance product
  • Compliant with all applicable codes.
  • Approved for use in all 50 states

- Approved for use in all major municipalities, DPW's and state DOT's.

Color selection for ADA tactile warning steps, platform edging and tiles

For rail platform edges and other walk hazard areas, the detectable warning surfaces should contrast visually with adjacent surfaces, either light-on-dark, or dark-on-light. They can complement the other surface colors, but they should contrast.

Standard Colors Available:

  • Brick Red
  • Yellow
  • Gray stone
  • White Limestone
  • Black granite

Custom colors are available to complement your project. The colors are produced by non-fading mineral pigments.
