WATER REDUCING ADMIXTURE

Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N is a new generation, synthetically manufactured, water reducing normal set admixture for concrete. Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N provides a more plastic and flowable concrete, greater uniformity, increased durability, and reduced shrinkage and permeability in your concrete. Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N meets the requirements of ASTM C 494, Type A, B and D admixture.

  • Increased workability and easier placeability.
  • Improved finishing characteristics for flatwork.
  • Easier and faster pumping of concrete.
  • Reduced shrinkage and cracking.
  • Reduced segregation at a given slump.
  • Reduced permeability.
  • Increased concrete durability and uniformity.
  • Improved appearance of architectural concrete.
  • Increased strength at all ages.

Usage

Since Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N is calcium chloride free, it is recommended for use in all types of concrete including plain, reinforced, paving, precast and prestressed concretes. Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N is especially effective in concretes containing such pozzolanic materials as fly ash, silica fume and slag.

Application

Application Information

Mixing

For best plasticizing results, Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N should be added directly to freshly mixed concrete in the concrete mixer at the end of the batching cycle. Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N may also be dispensed as an integral material during the regular admixture batching cycle or into freshly mixed concrete in a Ready-Mix truck at the concrete plant or job site. To optimize the superplasticizing effect, Sika recommends that the combined materials be mixed for 80-100 revolutions, either in the concrete mixer or in the Ready-Mix truck.

Combination with Other Admixtures: Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N is highly effective as a single admixture or in combination with other admixtures. When used in combination with other admixtures, dispense each admixture separately into the concrete. Do not mix with dry cement.

Combination with Pozzolanic Materials: Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N can be successfully used in mix designs utilizing pozzolanic materials such as fly ash and GGBFS.

Consumption

Recommended Dosage

The recommended dosage range for Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N is 1.5-5.0 ounces per 100 lbs. (100-325 ml / 100 kg) of cementitious material. Various concrete materials, slump, ambient air temperature, additions of pozzolanic materials, mixing time, and type and brand of cement will affect dosage rates. When used at a dosage rate of 3.5-5.0 ounces per 100 lbs. (230-325 ml / 100 kg) of cementitious material, Sika® Plastocrete®-10 N performs as a set-retarding admixture for concrete.

Dosage rates outside the recommended range may be used where specialized materials such as microsilica are specified, extreme ambient conditions are encountered or unusual project conditions require special consideration.
