Efflorescence Reducing and Water Repelling Admixture

SikaMix® AE-3 is a high performance efflorescence reducing and water repelling admixture for various concrete applications. SikaMix® AE-3 is formulated to meet ASTM E514 Standard Test Method for Water Penetration and Leakage Through Masonry.

SikaMix® AE-3 is suitable for the production of drycast and wetcast concrete.
Use of SikaMix® AE-3 results in:

Usage

SikaMix® AE-3 is a high efficiency concrete admixture that can be used for efflorescence reduction, absorption control and water repellency. Typical applications are:

• Dry and Semi drycast applications: Concrete masonry units, Pavers, SRW’s
• Wetcast applications: Stone veneer, Architectural precast
• Aesthetics: Use of SikaMix® AE-3 may improve color brightness

Shelf Life

Shelf life when stored in dry warehouse conditions between 50 °F and 70 °F (10-21 °C) is 6 months.

Storage Conditions

SikaMix® AE-3 should be stored between 50 °F and 70 °F (10-21 °C). If the product separates or settles during this period, reconstitute the product to normal state by agitation. If frozen, admixture cannot be reconstituted and must be discarded accordingly to local laws.

Mixing

As SikaMix® AE-3 is a low dosed admixture and the majority of applications will have a very low water cement ratio, it is necessary to provide sufficient mixing time to allow the admixture to be distributed throughout the entire batch and provide uniform performance.
In general, a total mixing time of at least 90 seconds is essential. Mixing time after adding the admixture depends on the individual circumstances and should be determined by trials.
SikaMix® AE-3 can be added with the batching water or introduced at the end of the mixing process.
Do not introduce SikaMix® AE-3 up front, or directly onto dry cementitious materials, as this may reduce admixture performance.

Recommended Dosage

Dosage rate will vary according to targeted application. Normally a dosage range of 1.5 to 3 fl. oz / 100. lbs of cementitious material should be sufficient for efflorescence and absorption control. If water repellency is required dosage may be increased to 2 to 5 fl. oz / 100 lbs. of cementitious material. Actual dosage rate will vary based upon mix design. Proper dosage should be always verified by trial batch to ensure
desired performance is achieved.
