Overview

Ground Engineering - Soil Retention & Stabilization - ASTEC™ FRP Active Anchors

Soil Retention Post-tensioned hybrid FRP+Steel cut-able ground anchor system used in excavation works.

FRP post-tensioned anchoring solution

An Active Anchors is post-tensioned from the external face of the ground immediately after installation, and is usually designed to help prevent deformation of the ground or retained structure. It has a free length and a bonded length.

A typical application for Active Anchors is anchoring of retaining walls during excavation works. To prevent the wall from the smallest displacement, the anchor is pre-loaded.

ASTEC Active Anchors is made of composite material, which is by nature cut-able. The tendons can be excavated by any standard equipment, therefore anchor removal is never required.

About our ASTEC FRP anchors

  • For temporary applications, take advantage of the cuttable nature of FRP bars. At the end of the project, anchor doesn’t need to be removed from the ground, as it can be cut by standard earth moving equipment or Tunnel Boring Machines (subway projects).
  • For permanent applications, the full resistance of the FRP anchor to corrosion will guarantee optimal performance over the years. No additional corrosion protection accessories required.
  • Multi-tendon: from one to 14 tendon. Each FRP tendons is spliced to a standard PT strand in sleeve (no friction for the free length) which can be tensioned with standard jack equipment.
  • Ultimate load capacity up to 3,500 tons.

Engineering support : Your project is unique. Our teams support your team on item selection and design.
Light weight : Nullifies the requirement of crane to transport or install the anchor.
Cut-able : FRP can easily be cut out: no extraction required, even in neighbouring plots. Save on anchor removal costs.

Excavation

Retaining walls for excavations are vertical structures that only allow limited deflection. Typically, pre-stressed active anchors are preferred. High strength tendons anchored to the retaining wall on one end and to the ground on the other end through a bulb of pressure injected grout named ‘bond length’.

Slope Stabilization

On soil-covered slopes, soil is constantly moving downslope due to gravity, therefore larger displacement have to be considered. Typically passive anchors are preferred. High strength tendons are fullygrouted from the face of the slope into the stable ground.
