M-Flex Strata 914
Flexible Latex-Portland Cement Mortar EGP
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
M-Flex Strata is a flexible, latex-Portland cement mortar that is composed
of an integral blend of special diverse dry polymers, plasticizers, Portland
cement and sand. When cured, each separate polymer imparts distinct characteristics
which compliment the other polymers forming a union which provides for
48% higher flexural strength than conventional mortars, thus furnishing
the ultimate in a single component latex-Portland cement mortar. M-Flex
Strata will reduce tile cracking when used on substrates subjected to limited
deflection and vibration. It may be applied directly over in plane, minor
shrinkage cracks up to 1/16" in width with no special preparation procedures.
Our Advanced Poly-Fusion Technology provides superior flexibility when
mixed with water only. M-Flex Strata may be used to bond all types of ceramic
tile and natural stone over a variety of substrates including exterior
grade plywood. Because of its superior flexibility and bond strength, M-Flex
Strata is recommended for both interior and exterior floor and wall installations,
and in particular, those subjected to freeze-thaw conditions. Although
M-Flex Strata can span minor shrinkage cracking, structural cracks in excess
of 1/16" may cause tile failure and should be addressed prior to installation.
BASIC USE
M-Flex Strata is used as a bond coat for setting absorptive, semi-vitreous,
vitreous and impervious ceramic tiles such as porcelain and natural stone
for service in residential and commercial use. It is used in a mortar bed
from 3/32" to 3/16" (2.4 to 4.8 mm) after the tiles have been properly
embedded. M-Flex Strata has excellent water and impact resistance, is water
cleanable, non-flammable, good for exterior work and requires no pre-soaking
of tiles. M-Flex Strata mortar is not affected by prolonged contact with
water, but does not form a waterproof barrier. M-Flex Strata provides a
permanent installation with higher bond and flexural strength and lower
material and labor costs over conventional Portland cement mortar beds.
AREA OF USE
Suitable backings, when properly prepared, include plumb and true masonry,
concrete, cementitous backer units, cured Portland cement mortar beds,
brick, ceramic tile and stone. For interior dry areas only, M-Flex Strata
may be used over exterior grade plywood, scarified plastic laminates, gypsum
board (dry interior walls only) and properly prepared old cut back
adhesive (see C-Cure Technical Bulletin #102). M-Flex Strata may also be
used over properly prepared vinyl composition flooring (dry interior areas
only) excluding cushioned backed flooring. (See C-Cure Technical Bulletin
#107 for proper preparation procedures and limitations).

for thin marble, granite and large unit tile vertical and horizontal
installations. This preblended EGP mortar can be applied up to 3/4" (19.1
mm) thick to compensate for substrate or tile thickness variations. MarblMates
non-sag properties limit tile settling and hold large tiles in place, over
a variety of substrates. Meets or exceeds ANSI A118.4.
BASIC USE
MarblMate is formulated to hold large tile and marble units in place
on vertical surfaces. It may also be used on horizontal surfaces where
its non-sag properties limit post placement tile settling thus reducing
lippage. It may be used in a setting bed as thin as 3/32" (2.4 mm) or as
thick as 3/4" (19.1 mm) after embedding. MarblMate may be used for setting
absorptive, semi-vitreous and vitreous tiles in residential or commercial
service areas (interior or exterior applications). It has excellent impact
resistance, is water cleanable, nonflammable and requires no tile pre-soaking.
MarblMate is not affected by prolonged contact with water, but it does
not form a waterproof barrier.
AREA OF USE
Suitable backings, when properly prepared, include plumb and true masonry,
concrete, gypsum board (dry interior walls only), cementitious backer
units, cured Portland cement mortar beds, brick, ceramic tile and marble.
MarblMate may be used over exterior grade plywood within dry, interior
areas only.
LIMITATIONS
MarblMate must not be used directly over asphalt sheeting, vinyl covered
wallboard, Masonite®, cement asbestos board, metal, glass, plastic,
luan plywood or gypsum mortars. Improperly cured or wet plywood, particle
board or stripwood surfaces are not considered suitable substrates. When
used to install tile in an area that will be continually wet (e.g. swimming
pools, gang showers, etc.) it is recommended that the complete installation
shall be cured a minimum of 14 days and allowed to thoroughly dry before
exposure to water. Apply in a temperature range of 40°F to 90°F
(4°C to 32°C). Do not allow mortar to freeze for the first 72
hours. Green or red marbles may warp when installed with water-based
setting materials, causing loss of bond and/or damage to the finish. These
marbles must be set with ColorSet Epoxy System 931.
LIMITATIONS ON TILES
When using MarblMate on vertical surfaces, tiles with a surface area
of 1 sq. ft. (30 cm²) or less shall not exceed 5 lbs. (2.27 Kg) per
1 sq. ft (30 cm²). Tile with surface area greater than 1 sq. ft. (30
cm²) should be tested to determine suitability of product by installing
three (3) test areas with actual tiles on the actual substrate.
APPLICABLE STANDARDS
Conforms to the requirements for dry-set mortars found in ANSI
A118.4, ANSI 118.11, ANSI A108.5 and A108.12.

UniFlex 916
Elastomeric Dry-Set Mortar and Anti-Fracture Membrane
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
UniFlex is a technological breakthrough in the development of a truly
elastomeric dry-set mortar for the installation of ceramic tile and dimension
stone. UniFlex is composed of a unique synergism of latex polymers and
Portland cement. UniFlex may also be used as an elastomeric anti-fracture
membrane for the installation of ceramic tile, marble, slate and granite
over a variety of surfaces.
BASIC USE
UniFlex is trowel applied to develop an elastic membrane that is designed
to prevent existing cracks in the substrate from transferring through the
tile installation. Due to its excellent flexibility, UniFlex allows the
installation of hard surfaces to substrates subject to vibrations and deflection
up to 1/240 of the span.
AREA OF USE
UniFlex can be used on floors and walls or anywhere a water resistant
elastomeric setting material is desired for the installation of ceramic
tile and stone surfaces on interior or exterior applications.
Suitable backings, when properly prepared include: cured Portland cement mortar beds, existing ceramic tile, concrete slabs, plastic laminate countertops, concrete block, steel decking and cementitious backer units. UniFlex can also be used to set tiles and stone over existing clean, vinyl flooring if they are well bonded to the substrate. See C-Cure Technical Bulletin #102 for application over prepared old cutback adhesives (in dry above grade areas). Exterior Grade Plywood (EGP) and gypsum board are suitable substrates in dry interior areas only. Certain high compressive strength gypsum mortar beds are also suitable substrates when properly prepared (see C-Cure Technical Bulletin #104).
When used as a crack suppressant elastomeric membrane, UniFlex allows installations over properly prepared shrinkage cracks as described in this product information sheet.
LIMITATIONS
UniFlex must not be applied directly over asphalt sheeting, vinyl covered
wallboard, cushion backed flooring, perimeter bonded vinyl flooring, Masonite®,
cement asbestos board, metal (excluding steel decking) or glass.
Improperly cured or wet plywood, Luan plywood, particle board or stripwood
surfaces are not considered suitable substrates. Do not apply to surfaces
below 40°F (4°C). Keep above 40°F (4°C) for at least 72
hours after application to allow for proper cure. Do not apply over wet
surfaces or surfaces subject to hydrostatic pressure. Because of its soft
nature, marble should not be installed over substrates with deflection
in excess of 1/360 of the span. Never apply UniFlex over 3/16" (4.8 mm)
thick. UniFlex is not to be used as a wearing surface. Some green or red
marbles may warp when installed with setting materials containing water,
causing loss of bond and/or damage to the finish. These marbles must be
set with ColorSet Epoxy 931.
APPLICABLE STANDARDS
UniFlex may be used in installations that must conform to ANSI A108.5.
Detailed installation procedures may be found in the TCA Handbook.
