ELAST-O-COAT FLUID APPLIED MEMBRANE

DESCRIPTION

ELAST-O-COAT
Fluid Applied Membrane is a tough, high quality, 100% solids 2 part elastomer-modified epoxy coating with a rubber-like composition when cured. It is applied on floors and molded up onto vertical areas, over curbs, etc. as a seamless elastomeric membrane. It can be applied to virtually any shape or contour by brush, paint roller, trowel or squeegee. ELAST-O-COAT is designed for use underneath epoxy flooring systems or acrylic modified cement toppings, to provide a vibration resilient cushion. It can also be used as a traffic bearing surface in light traffic areas. Elast-O-Coat can be applied on properly prepared concrete, plywood, metal and quarry tile.

BENEFITS
– Easy to use
– Can be applied to damp surface (not wet)
– Very good abrasion resistance for foot traffic
– Cures tack-free overnight at 55°F or warmer temp.
– Very good resistance to salt, gasoline, detergents, etc.
– No primer required
– Excellent adhesion
– Does not embrittle with age
– No shrinkage
– Low water absorption/vapor permeability

TYPICAL USES

APPLICATION OF ELAST-O-COAT MEMBRANE
The purpose is to assure that no water passes to occupied areas below the floor in the event it is damaged or the substrate cracks. Elast-O-Coat Membrane greatly reduces crack transmission. It relieves stress that occurs when a substrate cracks or shifts, to help prevent the crack from transmitting up through an epoxy floor or coating. Elast-O-Coat will also prevent water from passing through to occupied or critical areas below, in the event that the epoxy floor is damaged. On parking garage decks the membrane prevents rebars from rusting caused by water and chemical penetration.

LIMITATIONS

Minimum temperature of 55°F is required during curing period. ELAST-O-COAT shall be applied at a uniform film thickness to provide proper protection.

MODIFICATION
No-Sag #2 can be added to stop sagging on vertical surface applications.

COLOR
Clear. Can be tinted with Dur-A-Gard resin (B). See standard color chart in "Dur-A-Gard Floor & Wall Epoxy" Snapshot. Special colors available upon request.

CONCRETE
SURFACE PREPARATION – Surface shall be dry and perfectly clean, free of all oil, grease, detergent film, sealers and/or curing compounds in accordance with Dur-A-Flex, Inc., document titled "Preparation Guidelines" in "Preparation/Application Details" Snapshot. A sealer coat of Dur-A-Shield can be applied on the concrete surface to reduce/eliminate air bubbles.

SPREAD RATES
Surface profile and amount of expansion/contraction determines the required spread rate. A coarse surface requires more Elast-O-Coat than a smoother finish. Concrete and metal temperature variations cause expansion and contraction. Plywood expands during high humidity periods, contracts during dry periods. Fairly smooth surfaces and a constant temperature require a minimum of 40 sq. ft. per gallon. A coarser surface will require a spread rate of 27 sq. ft. per gallon. Substrates with varying temperatures and plywood surfaces require a minimum spread rate of 27 sq. ft. per gal.

Film Thickness – 40 mils
Spread Rate – 40 sq. ft. per gallon

Film Thickness – 50 mils
Spread Rate – 32 sq. ft. per gallon

Film Thickness – 60 mils
Spread Rate – 27 sq. ft. per gallon

PLYWOOD SURFACE PREPARATION

Use only high quality 3/4" underlayment grade plywood. Tongue and groove edges are highly recommended if available.
1. Stagger the plywood sheets so as to avoid a four corner meeting. All edges shall be on supporting joists.
2. Allow 1/16" space for expansion. Fill seams with Elast-O-Coat.
3. Secure with barbed underlayment grade nails (strong-hold type) 6" on center along all edges and 12" on center along intermediate support.
4. Sand uneven joints flush. Tongue and groove plywood may not require sanding.
5. Apply fiberglass tape over all seams.
6. Vent area under floor to avoid a vapor pressure build-up. This is important because Elast-O-Coat will not allow vapor to permeate.

MIXING INSTRUCTION and APPLICATIONS
Elast-O-Coat is a 2 part formulation with a limited "useful working time" when hardener and resin are combined. The formulation requires a combination of 1 part hardener (A), 2 parts resin (B) by volume measure to start an irreversible chemical reaction that cures the liquids into a rubbery membrane. ACCURATE MEASURING and THOROUGH MIXING IS MANDATORY. Do not adjust the 1:2 ratio. To assure uniformity, stir the mixed hardener and resin thoroughly before using. Mix only an amount that can be used within 25 minutes at 70°F, less at higher temperatures.

ELAST-O-COAT contains an amine epoxy hardener and resins that can irritate sensitive skin and eyes. Avoid skin contact and splashing in eyes. Wear eye shield and rubber gloves. If contact occurs, wash with soap and water. If splashed in eye, hold lid open and rinse with clear water for 15 minutes. Call a physician for advice. Launder all contaminated clothing before using. Discard contaminated shoes. Provide good ventilation in the workplace and enforce good housekeeping procedures. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
