SANDELL®’S TROWEL MASTIC
Sandell®’s  Trowel Mastic is a cut-back asphalt blend, containing long fiber material.  It is manufactured in a thick consistency for easy application. This mastic is used in conjunction with setting and sealing flashing. The mastic is also used below grade for damp-proofing purposes.

Furnished in 5 gallon pails.

Coverage: approximately 25 sq ft. per gallon with 1/16" thickness, 12-1/2 sq. ft. per gallon with 1/8" thickness.

USES:
Copper Laminated Flashings.

Splicing
Sandell Asphalt Trowel Mastic is the preferred mastic to be used while splicing copper flashings. Material should be overlapped a minimum of 4" and coating of Sandell Asphalt Trowel Mastic applied to a yield of 25 sq ft. per gallon coverage.

Vertical Masonry Surfaces
Sandell Asphalt Trowel mastic should be spotted to vertical surfaces to receive flashing. Sandell Asphalt Trowel Mastic will hold the flashing in place while masonry is set. Flashing should be secured in a reglet or masonry joint or mechanical fastener.

General Purpose
Sandell Asphalt Trowel Mastic can also be used as a general purpose cement for repairing leaks in asphalt roofs, metal roofs, chimneys, flues, down spouts and concrete.

CONSISTENCY:
Sandell Asphalt Trowel Mastic is a heavy, trowel grade which spreads easily and adheres to most surfaces. Coverage should yield approximately 25 sq ft. per gallon. Sandell Asphalt Trowel Mastic retains its elasticity and ductility, thus coating will resist extreme variations in temperature.

SANDELL®'S NUFLEX MASTIC
Sandell®’s Nuflex Mastic was specifically formulated to give a perfect bond between Nuflex Plastic Flashing and all construction surfaces. Applied cold with a trowel, this product forms a durable elastic coating which adheres uniformly to Nuflex Plastic. Sandell®’s  Nuflex Mastic adjusts independently to contraction and expansion caused by temperature cycling and structural movement.

Furnished in 5 gallon pails.

Coverage: approximately 25 sq. ft. per gallon with 1/16" thickness, 12-1/2 sq. ft. per gallon with 1/8" thickness.

CHARACTERISTICS: Produces a strong bond between Nuflex and other surfaces. It is also excellent for bonding other materials such as Tedlar, neoprene, asbestos and foamed polystyrene. Unlike asphalt mastics that cause plasticizer migration when used with PVC, Sandell Special Nuflex Mastic is compatible with all PVC and polyethelene materials and also asphaltic materials.

MODEL SPECIFICATIONS:
Special Requirements: Protect all adjacent work from damage by work performed under this section.
Preparation: Surfaces to be bonded should be clean and free of dirt, oil, water or other contaminates. Remove all loose and water-soluble material.
Materials: Cement for bonding vinyl membrane (Sandell/Nuflex) to itself and all surfaces where required will be Sandell Special Nuflex Mastic as manufactured by Sandell Manufacturing Co., Inc., Amsterdam, New York.

APPLICATION:
Sandell Special Nuflex Mastic can be easily applied by trowel to both surfaces. A saw toothed trowel having equilateral 1/8" notches is recommended for most single-surface applications. A trowel having 1/16" square notches with 1/16" flats between the notches is recommended for two sided applications. On relatively smooth surfaces, either a stiff brush or the 1/16" square notched trowel should be used. Allow the adhesive to dry until it is quite tacky. Using a thin coat of adhesive, this will take about 15 minutes at 77 degrees F. and 50% R.H. Heavy trowel coatings may require long drying times for complete solvent evaporation. Bonds can be made up to 3 hours after application of the adhesive, depending upon materials being bonded, surface porosity and application method. Press the material to be bonded into position. Apply pressure with roller from center edges forcing out entrapped air. A strong bond results immediately. Maximum strength is attained in about 48 hours.
NOTE: Although Sandell Special Nuflex Mastic contains a solvent blend specifically formulated to minimize cell collapse due to solvent attack on the surface of foamed or expanded polystyrene, care should be taken to avoid solvent entrapment in the glue line by joining surfaces prior to allowing sufficient solvent evaporation.
CAUTION!
THIS CEMENT CONTAINS VOLATILE, FLAMMABLE SOLVENT, PROVIDE ADEQUATE VENTILATION. AVOID SPARKS. DO NOT USE NEAR OPEN FLAME OR SPARK-PRODUCING EQUIPMENT.
