Light-years Ahead: KALWALL SKYLIGHTS & SKYROOFS ™
A comprehensive line of standardized prefabricated and pre-engineered skylights
and skyroofs fit perfectly into many designs. Custom engineering offers limitless
possibilities including hurricane resistant, FM Class 1 and UL Class A Systems. See Kalwall's downloadable Sweets Product Catalog (08 45 23/KAL – previously
08950/KAL) for more information.
Kalwall Insulated Skyroof Systems
Most custom Skyroofs are either shed or supported ridge type, designed to be
installed over required substructure by "others". However, self-supporting ridgetype
skyroofs in four standard slopes, spanning over 20 feet without exposed substructure,
are common.
Caution: Details for self-supporting Skyroofs are different! See below.
JOINT SYSTEMS - see Plans A & B below
Kalwall Skyroof Systems allow flexibility in design by a choice of two distinct
panel-to-panel joint systems: the 2" (51 mm) or 2-1/2" (64 mm) Double
T; and, the Overlap*. As shown in Plan A, when the supporting substructure runs
across the slope, panels will be installed with the slope and joined with a Clamp-tite
Double T batten, Section 4. When the substructure runs with the slope, the Overlap
joint system, shown in Plan B and Section 2, is used.
PERIMETER DETAILS
Except for canopy applications, Kalwall strongly suggests use of the curb-type
perimeter system, keeping the Skyroof above the roof plane and providing a natural
expansion joint. The Clamp-tite perimeter frame, factory-sealed to the Kalwall
panel for standard systems, can be either Section 3A; or for wider curbs (or Thermal
Break) Section 3B. Section 3B provides the most rough opening forgiveness but
may limit clear span and/or live load capability. PLEASE, check with us for detail
assistance early in your design stage.
RIDGE DETAIL
Section 5 shows the supported ridge connections. Note that the supporting ridge
members should be at least 7" (178 mm) in width. A thermally broken option
is available.
VERTICAL WALL DETAIL
A half ridge section is used, as in Section 1, with counter flashing by others
back to the adjoining wall surface.
SUPPORT
Standard Kalwall Skyroof Systems must be supported as required by local codes.
See Kalwall’s Span Guide below (generally 10' under a 30 lbs./sq.ft.
live load (1450 Pa). The Skyroof System will be fastened to the support as indicated
in Section 4.
Kalwall can provide greater clear span capability, as indicated in Section
6, utilizing the 3-1/4" (83 mm) Integral Stiffener.
