This material fills most of the space in the interior of a door. It is relatively
light in density at approximately 32 pounds per cubic foot and is an excellent
insulator. It will not, however, provide any screw holding capability. GP mineral
cores are made of a proprietary mix of various minerals, fiberglass, and inert
binders. They are available in a variety of thicknesses ranging from 1.500 inches
to 1.6875 inches (38mm to 43mm) and in various sizes up to a maximum of 34½
inches by 82 inches (876mm x 2083mm). Mineral core is easily sawn with ordinary
woodworking equipment and can be pieced together to make doors as large as four
feet wide and ten feet tall. Georgia-Pacific mineral core is also approved for
use in temperature rise applications in both steel and wood fire doors.

FS is used for stiles and rails around the perimeter of doors, between the mineral
core and the decorative wood or high-pressure laminate edges. It has excellent
screw withdrawal characteristics and is also used as internal blocking material
to allow hardware to be screwed to the door. FS is a patented product made from
gypsum, organic fibers, fiberglass and inert binders. In addition to its excellent
performance in fire doors, FS can be used to make fire rated door frames. These
can be veneered to match exactly the faces of the door and surrounding woodwork
  or cabinetry.

Mineral cores and FS stiles, rails, and blocking may be bought separately, in
pieces cut-to-size by us and ready for assembly at a door manufacturer's location.
Or, a door manufacturer may buy banded cores from GP with the core, FS stiles,
rails, lock blocks and a wood outer stile already assembled by us. If intumescent
seals are required, we will install them. We offer a range of final thicknesses
from 1.50" to 1.60", a variety of wood species, and dozens of different
blocking, stile, and rail configurations to fit almost any need. Banded cores
may be ordered with a surface sealer applied to reduce surface dust, and with
saw kerfs cut into the face to release any steam generated by hot pressing faces
to the door. With banded cores from GP, door manufacturers receive a product
that's ready for the glue spreader and door skin press -- without the need for
  costly and time-consuming assembly.

GP's FS material makes an excellent fire resistant substrate for wood veneered
door frames. These frames have achieved neutral and positive pressure certification
for 45-, 60-, and 90-minute ratings. Veneered with the same species as the door
faces, they make for beautiful openings when aesthetics are of primary concern.
