All hardware preparations are shielded to guard against leakage. Hardware and preparations must be coordinated to match the higher than normal door weight. Welded type frames for new construction and knock-down versions for use in existing walls are available. Wall thickness including lead lining must be specified when the frame is ordered. Lead linings are welded together in the frame to prevent movement during shipment and installation. Fire labels are available as are special gages of metal and internal angle bracing if this is required by the door weight and the architect’s design. Bullet Resistant Doors and Frames Bullet resistant doors contain a laminated fiberglass core covered by wood and finish veneer. Matching hardwood edges allow the door to appear similar in design to a conventional wood door. UL protective levels 1, 2, 3, and 6 are offered at present. Hollow metal door frames with bullet resistant material installed inside are a companion product that normally is purchased with the bullet resistant door. All testing of doors for bullet resistance includes frame testing. A system purchase of door and frame is recommended by A & L Shielding Inc.
