The Stearns Quarry located in Chicago was an active limestone quarry from 1830 through 1969. After fifteen years as a landfill the quarry was transformed into a 27 acre park. The park now includes athletic fields, running track, sledding mound, fishing pond, fishing pier and elevated walking structure for viewing the quarry.

The designers requested an open metal type decking system to provide an ADA compliant walking surface but also allow pedestrians to look down through the metal deck and view the water, grasses and landscaping.
