Mortar Break II® The complete Mortar Break II® System is backed by Advanced Building Products, a leading manufacturer of thru-wall flashings. Mortar deflection devices have gained popularity in recent years, and with good reason. Advanced Building Products was the first flashings manufacturer to see the need to provide a drainage system for all cavity wall construction. Our products have been tested in both the lab and the field. Mortar Break II is made from 100% recycled materials qualifying the complete Mortar Break system for L.E.E.D. credits. Independent laboratory reports are available upon request.Description: Mortar Break II® is our newest improved mortar deflection device. Mortar Break II® is a 1.5" thick high density polyethylene geometric design. The slightly narrower profile of Mortar Break II® allows for a better fit in a 2" cavity and avoids any possibility of mortar bridging the cavity. It is this bridging of mortar, although not continuous, that will allow moisture to travel into the interior wythe of a typical cavity wall. Polymer Type: High Density Polyethylene.
The slight tilt of Mortar Break II® in a cavity wall doesn’t allow mortar droppings to form a continuous bridge. Basic Use: For all use at all flashing locations, such as composite, single wythe and veneer applications (see detail). Mortar Break II® , used properly in a 2" or wider cavity, will protect against moisture build-up in a cavity wall. Composition: Mortar Break II® is a polymer core geomatrix design woven into a 1.5" thick mesh. The special mesh design catches mortar droppings and suspends them above the weep holes. Size: Install Mortar Break II® by placing the strips at all flashing locations. Mechanical attachment is not required. Short-Form Specification: The mortar deflection device in a 2" or greater cavity wall shall be Mortar Break II® polymer core geomatrix design woven into a 1.5" thick mesh, as manufactured by Advanced Building Products, Inc., tel: 800-252-2306. The product shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. NOTE: Any mortar deflection device is only as good as the flashing with which it is installed. The Brick Institute of America states in its technical note #21: “It is suggested that only superior materials be selected for flashing, as its replacement in the event of failure will be exceedingly expensive.” |
