Quiet K.D. Locker Specifications

PRODUCTS

MATERIALS

Steel Sheet: All sheet steel used in fabrication shall be prime grade free from scale and imperfections and capable of taking a heavy coat of high gloss baked enamel.

Stainless Steel: 304 stainless steel with no. 4 finish shall be used for all recessed handles and lock hole cover plates.

Fasteners: Zinc plated steel; bolt heads to be slotless type.

Equipment: Hooks and hang rods of zinc plated steel.

Number Plates: To be polished aluminum with not less than 3/8" high engraved numbers attached to door with two aluminum rivets. Numerals to be silver on black background.

FABRICATION

GENERAL: Lockers shall be (Pick one...STANDARD QUIET...QUIET II... ARTISAN SILENT) K.D. LOCKERS as manufactured by Art Metal Products. Fabricate lockers square, rigid and without warp, with metal faces flat and free from dents or distortion. Make all exposed metal edges safe to touch. Weld frame members together to form rigid, one-piece structure. Weld, bolt, or rivet other joints and connections as standard with manufacturer. Grind exposed welds flush. Do not expose bolts or rivet heads on fronts of locker doors or frames.

FINISHING: All surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned with a seven stage hot-spray washing process and coated with an insoluble iron phosphate film to inhibit corrosion, followed by a coat of high grade enamel electrostatically sprayed and baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of 20 minutes to provide a tough durable finish. Color to be selected from our 24 standard colors. Two-tone color combination (frame one color and the doors a second color) is available at no additional cost. Interior body parts shall be our standard neutral color.

FRAME: Fabricate of 16 gauge (minimum) channels, with integral continuous door stop/strike formed on both latch and hinge side vertical members. Frame cross members of 16 gauge channel shapes, including intermediate cross members on double and triple tier frames with doors over 20" and higher, shall be securely welded to the vertical framing members to ensure rigidity. Rubber bumpers shall be provided to cushion door closing.

WARDROBE DOORS:

Standard Quiet Doors 20" high and over to be fabricated from single sheet prime 16 gauge (18 gauge for doors 9" wide) with single bends at top and bottom and double bends at the sides. The channel formed by the double bend at the latch side is designed to fully conceal the lock bar. Doors are plain (non-ventilated).

Quiet II Quiet Doors 20" high and over to be fabricated from single sheet prime 16 gauge (18 gauge for doors 9" wide) with single bends at top and bottom and double bends at the sides. The channel formed by the double bend at the latch side is designed to fully conceal the lock bar. Doors are plain (non-ventilated) with an acoustically filled drawn sound deadening pan welded to the inner door face.

Artisan Silent Doors 20" high and over to be fabricated from single sheet prime 16 gauge (18 gauge for doors 9" wide) with single bends at top and bottom and double bends at the sides. The channel formed by the double bend at the latch side is designed to fully conceal the lock bar. Door face is plain (non-ventilated). Ventilating slots are added to the top and bottom door flanges for ventilation. An acoustically filled drawn sound deadening pan is welded to the inner door face.

Optional: Art Metal Products recommends doors over 15" wide include an 18 gauge full height door stiffener MIG welded to the hinge side as well as the top and bottom door flanges.

STAINLESS STEEL RECESSED LOCKER HANDLE: All wardrobe doors shall have recessed stainless steel handle shaped to receive a padlock or built-in combination lock. The recess pan shall be deep enough to have the lock be flush with the outer door face. Box doors shall be equipped with a combination friction catch door pull and strike plate as stated above.

LATCH ASSEMBLY: The latching mechanism shall be finger lift control type constructed of 12 gauge (minimum) steel with a nylon cover that has a generous finger pull. Spring activated nylon slide latches shall be completely enclosed in the lock channel allowing doors to close with the lock in the locked position. Locking device shall be designed for use with either built-in combination locks or padlocks. 12 gauge latch hooks shall be securely welded to the vertical frame channel on the strike side to engage the nylon slide latches. Three latch hooks for doors 48" and higher, two latch hooks for doors under 48" high.

DOOR HINGES: Shall not be less than 2" long 16 gauge five knuckle pin type, securely welded to frame and riveted to the door. Provide 3 hinges for doors 48" and higher and 2 for doors under 48" high. All doors to be right hand, side hinged.

BODY: Fabricate back and sides of 24 gauge (minimum) sheet steel, with double flanged connections extending full height. Form top, bottom and intermediate tier dividers of 24 gauge (minimum) sheet steel with single return bends at all sides. Bolt to front horizontal frame members in addition to side panels. Form hat shelves at single tier lockers of 24 gauge (minimum) sheet steel with single bends at sides and back and a double bend at front.

LOCKER ACCESSORIES

LOCKS: Wardrobe doors are designed for use with Master #1630, #1670, #1710, #1710MK, #1718 and #1525 locks.

Note: Left hand hinged doors of Two-Person and Duplex lockers use Master #1631 or #1671 locks.

EQUIPMENT: Furnish each locker with the following items, unless otherwise shown.

Single tier lockers: Hat shelf, one double prong ceiling hook and three single prong wall hooks. Wall hooks only for 9" wide.

Double tier lockers: One double prong ceiling hook and three single prong wall hooks. Wall hooks only for 9" wide.

Triple tier lockers: One double prong ceiling hook only. No hooks for 9" wide.

EXECUTION

INSTALLATION

GENERAL: Installation shall be in strict conformance with referenced standards, the manufacturer’s written directions, as shown on the drawings and as herein specified.

PLACEMENT: Lockers shall be set in place, plumb, level, rigid, flush and securely attached to the wall (or bolted together if back-to-back) and anchored to the floor or base according to manufacturer’s specifications.

ANCHORAGE: Anchor assembled locker groups to floor/base 6" in from each locker group end. Lockers shall be anchored to wall 6" from each locker group end 6" above floor/base and 6" below top of group.

TRIM: Sloping tops, metal fillers and end panels if applicable shall be installed using concealed fasteners. Provide flush, hairline joints against adjacent surfaces.

ADJUSTMENT

GENERAL: Upon completion of installation, inspect lockers and adjust as necessary for proper door operation. Touch-up scratches and abrasions to match original finish.

In the interest of safety, all Art Metal Products lockers must be securely anchored to the floor and/or wall.
