ACOUSTA-WAL® blocks are sound-absorbing, structural concrete masonry units which have closed tops and vertical slots in front of the cavities. ACOUSTA-WAL® units work like a car mufflerthey absorb sound using the Helmholtz resonator principle. The closed-end cavities of the different sized units resonate to sound waves of various frequencies and convert them harmlessly to heat.
ACOUSTA-WAL® blocks are excellent for auditoriums, gymnasiums, power plants or wherever noise is a problem, indoors and outdoors.
Sound Transmission Loss
In addition to absorbing unwanted noise within a room, ACOUSTA-WAL® units greatly reduce the transmission of noise to an adjacent room or area.
Low-Frequency Sound Absorption
While ACOUSTA-WAL® blocks absorb sound at all frequencies, they are particularly effective for absorbing difficult-to-control unwanted low frequency sound energy.
Permanent Sound Control
ACOUSTA-WAL® blocks are durable, load-bearing, and resistant to mechanical damage. Sound absorption can actually be built into the structure for the life of the building.
Finish Versatility
In addition to being available as ordinary gray blocks which can be painted, ACOUSTA-WAL® units can have factory-applied glazed or ground face finishes.
Easy Installation
ACOUSTA-WAL® blocks are installed like ordinary concrete masonry units with the closed tops up. Unlike alternative sound control materials, there is little or no added labor cost for installation. You save time and money.
Trenwyth is proud to introduce Type IV ACOUSTA-WAL® units. These Type IV units outperform the previously manufactured Type II and Type III units. Use Type IV Units for broad range sound absorption, such as school gymnasiums, lecture halls, and performing arts centers.
Type IV
Type IV units have wide funnel-shaped slots, opening into a two chamber cavity separated by a metal septum laminated to a factory-inserted fiberglass filler. Fiberglass fillers are chemically inert, vermin resistant, incombustible, and moisture-proof. Type IV units are available in 4" or 6" thicknesses.
Type IVRF
(Reinforced)
Type IVRF units are available in 8", 10", and 12" thicknesses. The Type IVRF units offer the advantage of open cavities for vertical reinforcing, conduits or pipes.
SOUND ABSORPTION AND TRANSMISSION
Sound absorption (shown in yellow) is a measure of the sound absorbed by the materials within the room, reducing reflected noise (shown dotted in blue). Sound transmission (shown in red) is a measure of sound not absorbed by the wall but passed from one room into an adjacent room.
ACOUSTA-WAL® blocks have significantly better sound transmission loss and sound absorption performance than ordinary hollow concrete masonry units. (See charts)
Use Type I Units for absorption of Low Frequency Sound such as Power Plants and Waste Water Treatment Plants.
Type I
Type I units have narrow straight slots and empty
cavities. Type I units are available in 4" or 6" thicknesses.
Type IRF
(Reinforced)
Type IRF units are available in 8", 10", and 12" thicknesses.
