The Center-Strut® transfers any stress applied to the goal through the backboard and to the backstop support. Center-Strut® height adjuster is available on all of porter’s 900 Line Center-Strut® systems.
With the addition of Porter’s Center-Strut® height adjuster, goal height is easily adjustable to any height between 8' and 10' to accommodate all age and skill levels. Limited Lifetime Warranty is offered on all Porter backboards when installed on a Center-Strut® height adjuster. Height adjusters are available with either manual or electric operating systems.

Porter’s Exclusive Center-Strut® Feature

  1. Center-Strut® mounts directly to the 6-5/8" diameter vertical drop frame support.
  2. The glass backboard mounts to Center-Strut® goal support with two independent bolts to provide Porter’s exclusive backboard/goal mounting system.
  3. Goal mounts independently with four bolts extending through the backboard and into the Center-Strut® mounting plate to eliminate any stress on the backboard to comply with the latest NCAA Rules Supplement (BR-21 Section 9), NFHS and FIBA recommendations for competition.


Adjustable Hinge
Roof framing structures are not always perfect! An exclusive adjustable hanger system is standard on all of Porter’s 900 style backstops. This system allows for precise leveling of the backboard support frame to insure that the backboard is on a horizontal plane with the playing surface on every installation. Adjustable support hangers also provide for easy installation and precise plumbing of backstop frame assuring proper operation and performance. Accurate adjustability allows the installer to account for even the slightest attachment height difference (up to 1-1/2" total) without compromising attachment integrity. Three adjustable hangers are provided on installations when the attachment height is above 28'.

Structural Channel Support
The No. 900 series provides outstanding rigidity by incorporating a heavy 4" structural steel channel as the critical top spreader support. The 6-5/8" diameter drop tube and 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" sway braces are secured to the horizontal support channel with full surface contact welds. This unitized frame won’t flex or develop looseness after years of use. Each hanger tests to 20,000 lb. maximum breaking strength and is designed with 5/8" diameter u-bolt support, 3/16" thick formed, die-cut saddle clamp, 3/4" diameter adjustment stud for precise leveling of mast support system and 1/2" diameter shoulder (hinge) bolts of polished, alloy steel, heat treated to a rockwell hardness of C32-43.

Folding Brace Hinge
All units with folding brace are furnished with unique hinge assembly incorporating alloy steel investment castings with in-line pivot points and integral torsion spring to maximize backstop stability. Patent Pending.

Offset Hinge Weight Lock System
The No. 900 line Center-Strut® support frame is designed with a 1-1/2" offset to utilize the weight of the structure to firmly and automatically lock the backstop in a rigid playing position. This simple weight-locking feature maximizes stability, yet does not rely on mechanical locks or latches.

Fully Welded Frame
Fully welded frame on the 900 Series provides maximum stability and strength on frames up to 32'. The 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" rectangular steel tube sway bracing is precision cut at an acute angle to provide an exact, back-to-back triangulated design with maximum weld surface contact closer to the bank for unequaled rigidity.

All-welded, single-mast drop frame with unitized diagonal sway bracing offers exceptional quality, clean design and rigid construction. The 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangular diagonal bracing and 6-5/8" dia. main support are welded to the 4" structural channel on the top of the frame.

For all attachment heights over 28' up to 32'. (Specify 900 series)
Totally welded drop frame structure incorporates three adjustable support hangers and added integral support sway brace struts to maximize lateral stability and overall rigidity. This design allows only Porter to provide welded backstops up to 32' attachment points as standard.

For all attachment heights above 32'. (Specify 900W series)
Due to its overall size requirements, the No. 900W series drop frame is designed as a bolt-together unit with additional internal bracing to provide unequaled stability, ease of transportation and access through gymnasium doorways. Frame incorporates three adjustable support hangers.
