Welcome to a new era. New polycarbonate systems now available with Nanogel® translucent aerogel insulation. Super Sky Products, Inc. and Cabot Corporation are pleased to announce the latest advancement in translucent glazing - Polycarbonate plus Nanogel translucent aerogel. What is Nanogel aerogel? Nanogel is Cabot Corporations trade name for its family of hydrophobic silica aerogels. Aerogel is a unique form of highly porous amorphous silica containing approximately 95% air. The unusual characteristic is the nature in which this air is distributed. Structured like a sponge, but with holes that are thousands of times smaller, aerogel suppresses the flow of heat more efficiently. The tiny holes or pores keep air molecules from colliding with each other and the lack of solid mass (~ 5%) reduces the conduction of heat. Translucent aerogel particles are designed to maximize the amount of light which passes through while still serving as highly effective thermal insulation. This represents a step change in daylighting systems. Now you can have greater design freedom and still meet stringent building codes. With new Super Sky polycarbonate panels plus Nanogel, you can reduce energy consumption, improve system performance, and increase your daylighting designs without the past tradeoffs between thermal insulation and light transmission. As unsurpassed leaders in skylighting systems, Super Sky is continuing their history of producing innovative products by introducing this new system to the market. Dramatically Improved Performance at a Lower Cost

SOUND CONTROL APPLICATION Nanogel® is a very light, highly-porous form of silica aerogel that is 97% air... The amazing thing about silica aerogel is how well it insulates even while transmitting (diffused) light. The key feature of Nanogel aerogel products in sound control applications is the reduction that occurs in the transmission of airborne sound waves through this product. The reduction in transmission of sound waves is due to the fine pore structure of the aerogel particles. Nanogel® Translucent Aerogel in Polycarbonate Performance Analysis
These charts demonstrate that a 16 mm panel with Nanogel translucent aerogel provides better thermal insulation at nearly equivalent light transmission than two 10 mm panels.
