CoolStar^™ Energy-Saving Products

CoolStar is a reflective roof surface coating that lowers roof surface temperatures dramatically, resulting in greater occupant comfort, less demand on air conditioning equipment, and lower overall energy costs. A reflective roof can reduce peak cooling demand by about 15%, and can even allow a building owner to specify a smaller, less expensive cooling system.

As "green" building standards become more prevalent, products that contribute to reduced environmental impact become more necessary. CoolStar coated roof surfaces exceed initial California Title 24 requirements for reflectance and emittance, meet ENERGY STAR^® requirements for use over modified bitumen and built-up roofing, are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council, and contribute credits under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED^®) Green Building Rating System^™.

CoolStar is available on a variety of CertainTeed cap sheets — which feature high quality reinforcements, heavy asphalt coatings and ceramic granules for excellent durability — and is factory-applied, so installation is a simple, one-step process and touch-up can occur immediately after installation.

Flintglas^® MS Cap w/CoolStar is a fiber glass cap sheet, produced on a durable, wet process fiber glass mat. Product has a heavy coating of weathering grade asphalt and is surfaced with white mineral granules and then surfaced with CertainTeed's CoolStar acrylic-based energy-saving reflectant coating. Designed for hot or cold asphalt application.

Flintlastic^® GTA Cap w/CoolStar is an APP Modified Bitumen with a high performance non-woven polyester mat and then surfaced with CertainTeed's CoolStar acrylic-based energy-saving reflectant coating. Designed for torch application.

Flintlastic^® GTA-FR Cap w/CoolStar is an APP, fire-resistant Modified Bitumen product produced on a high performance non-woven polyester mat and then surfaced with CertainTeed's CoolStar acrylic-based energy-saving reflectant coating. Designed for torch application.

Flexiglas^™ Premium Cap 960 w/CoolStar is an SBS Modified Bitumen product produced on a heavy duty glass mat and is then surfaced with CertainTeed's CoolStar acrylic-based energy-saving reflectant coating. Designed for hot and cold asphalt application.

Flintlastic^® FR Cap w/CoolStar is a mineral surfaced, fire-resistant SBS Modified Bitumen product produced on a heavy duty glass mat and is surfaced with mineral granules and then surfaced with CertainTeed's CoolStar acrylic-based energy-saving reflectant coating.
