TPO Thermoplastic Single Ply Roofing Systems
Thermoplastic single ply membranes are revolutionizing the commercial and industrial roofing industry. They represent the fastest growing segment of the U.S. roofing market over the past five years. The JM UltraGard® TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) product is a polyester reinforced membrane with tough solvent-or hot-air-welded seams. The membranes are aesthetically pleasing, light in weight, yet up to five times more puncture and tear-resistant than non-reinforced sheets for excellent durability and dimensional stability. This makes them ideal for either new construction or reroofing applications. The UltraGard TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) product advances the category yet another step by combining the solvent or hot-air-welding benefit of PVC with the greater flexibility and weatherability benefits of EPDM, the more traditional single-ply material (See information on EPDM). TPO not only offers clean application, but greater economy in installation because it allows techniques not common with bituminous membrane alternatives. Mechanically attached membranes utilize fasteners to secure the membrane to the substrate. Adhered systems utilize contact adhesives or latex adhesives (for fleece back materials). New Ultragard® SRT™45 Mil and 60 Mil Fire Resistant Membranes UltraGard SRT™45 FR and SRT™60 FR are heat weldable single ply membrane products that are mechanically attached or fully adhered. They are a white reflective reinforced UltraGard® thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) fire resistant (FR) roofing membrane. The new TPO product complements the JM single ply roofing lines of PVC and EPDM membranes and adds depth to the heat weldable product selection. Its highly reflective white surface is very desirable for owners and specifiers who are concerned about aesthetics and solar heat loading. It is ideal for buildings designed with different levels and sections and also has significant seam strength. Roofing contractors also like the ease with which the TPO membrane can be installed, which results in labor savings and faster application.
