I-Studs & Fire Rated Assemblies

Phillips I-Stud for Shaftwall/Stairwell assemblies was specifically designed to optimize performance. Not just the in-use performance of shaftwalls around elevator shafts, but also the performance of the work crew in the assembly process. Phillips I-Studs are manufactured with high quality galvanized steel. Use with your choice of board: American Gypsum, BPB, Certainteed, Canadian Gypsum Co., C-P Gypsum, National Gypsum Co., PABCO, Temple-Inland, United States Gypsum Co. (USG) and USG Mexico.

Simplified Assembly:

  • Phillips exclusive slotted I-Stud is used with tabbed J-Track for framing cavity shaftwalls, vertical chases and area separation walls. Phillips I-Stud features finger-like tabs that are designed to make insertion of liner panels into the stud body an easy operation. This design dimension alone makes assembly easier and faster. The tabs retain 1" shaftliner.

Lightweight Advantage:
  • I-Stud shaftwalls are lighter in weight than masonry systems. As a result, there is a significant cost savings, both in material and labor costs for the system and in foundation requirements to support the wall, particularly in high-rise buildings. Masonry shaftwalls withstand the forces of air movement by making sure the mortar bond is sufficient to inhibit movement of concrete blocks; gypsum shaftwalls accomplish the same thing with a lightweight combination of specialized I-Stud shaftwall framing.
