DRIVABLE GRASS® is a permeable, flexible and plantable concrete pavement system. It is designed for use in areas where a porous, and/or a vegetated pavement surface is desired for aesthetic or sustainable reasons. DRIVABLE GRASS® is composed of 36 individual 4" × 4" × 1.5" pads made of 5,000 psi concrete, linked by a flexible grid imbedded in the back of the product during casting. The engineered grid system allows the product to flex and conform to irregular ground surface contours along pre-defined linear grooves, while providing the intended structural support. The products geometry allows for enhanced root penetration, infiltration and filtration of storm water into the underlying soil, increased on-site storm water storage and minimization of site runoff. Because DRIVABLE GRASS® is a flexible paving system, it transfers loading from the mat surface to the structured base. The thickness of the base will depend on the loading requirements, but with a properly designed base, DRIVABLE GRASS® can sustain live loads of up to 80,000 lbs. And it will maintain its load supporting characteristics even when saturated. DRIVABLE GRASS® can be planted with turf by seeding, stolons or even sod. Other choices for infill include groundcovers, crushed rock, stone dust, bark mulch or even native soil. The flexible DRIVABLE GRASS® mats come in three standard colors; natural grey, buff/tan and terra-cotta. Each mat weighs 45 lbs and comes palletized, 60 mats to a pallet. Each mat covers 4 s.f. with coverage of 240 s.f. per pallet. DRIVABLE GRASS® can assist in qualifying for numerous LEED® credits. It is an open grid paving system, 61% permeable at the surface, and with a planting infill can contribute to reducing heat island effect (non-roof).
