![]() ChemBloc Secondary Containment Systems: Chemical, Abrasion and Impact Resistance StrataShield flooring division of Tnemec Company Inc., has introduced epoxy and vinyl ester linings for secondary containment. These thick, monolithic, fiberglass reinforced lining systems are designed to contain chemical spillage for up to 72 hours Secondary containment systems are required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to prevent any migration of hazardous materials from a tank system to soil, ground or surface water. The ChemBloc line of vinyl ester and 100 percent solids epoxy-linings are fiberglass mat reinforced systems offered in 65 and 125 mils dry film thickness (DFT). Each chemical-resistant lining system protects against harsh chemicals, as well as thermal cycling, impact and abrasion. System selection is based on the chemical solutions that need to be contained and their concentrations. The ChemBloc secondary containment line covers a majority of the hazardous materials and concentrations typically being stored by industrial companies. The ChemBloc secondary containment coatings can provide protection for the concrete in the containment areas that surround these structures. ![]() Series 206SC ChemBloc – a modified flexible polyamine epoxy, is a glass reinforced basecoat for bridging small substrate cracks in secondary containment concrete structures. The 100 percent solids coating replaces a mortar/slurry base coat for other ChemBloc linings when a flexible basecoat is desired. Series 237SC ChemBloc – a modified polyamine epoxy lining system. Series 239SC ChemBloc – a modified novolac polyamine epoxy lining system. Series 252SC ChemBloc – a novolac vinyl ester lining system. InstallationSurface preparation for ChemBloc lining systems requires abrasive blast cleaning to remove laitance, form release agents, curing compounds, sealers and other contaminants to provide a profile in accordance with SSPC-SP 13 or NACE No. 6 Surface Preparation of Concrete ICRI-CSP5. Series 237SC, Series 239SC and Series 252SC are available in two-component resin containment kits consisting of parts A (resin) and Part B (catalyst), which are easily mixed and roller-applied for fiberglass reinforced mat systems that specify 65 mil thickness. These coatings are also available in three-component mortar containment kits that include a Part C (aggregate) for trowel-applied mortar/fiberglass reinforced applications requiring 125 mils thickness. Tnemec's secondary containment coating systems are user friendly and conveniently packaged in 1.5- and 3-gallon kits that are easy to mix and apply. These systems take the guesswork out of calculating coverage rates for specific projects. When a flexible, crack bridging base coat is required, Series 206SC ChemBloc resin may be substituted for Series 237SC, 239SC or 252SC ChemBloc resins to build the base coat. Used as a base coat, Series 206SC ChemBloc aids in keeping hairline cracks in the concrete from causing the containment system to crack. Series 206SC is available in a three-gallon kit consisting of parts A (resin), B (catalyst) and C (aggregate). Tnemec Company Inc. |
