All of our Horizontal cut flooring is constructed with three ply's of 100% bamboo, with 1/16" spacing for expansion and contraction to reduce "de-lamination" and "cupping". We are also very careful to ensure our flooring is constructed with one of the smallest micro-bevel edges available today for prefinished flooring products this is designed to eliminate the v-grooved seams of typical pre-finished flooring on the market. Only the finest German manufacturing machinery and finishes are used for our products to ensure precision and quality. All of our products also have a manufacturer's lifetime de-lamination and a twenty year residential wear warranty.

Bamboo is the world's most environmentally friendly natural construction material available today and all of Higuera Hardwoods bamboo is always harvested from carefully controlled (FSC) managed forests China has many millions of natural acres which are currently designated to bamboo as it is used for many items, including food. Bamboo matures at such a rate that there is no environmental danger to this product, nor will there ever be at the current projections and availability. Bamboo shoots are harvested every five years; during this time frame the plant will reach as much as 90 feet in height and as much as 8" to 10" in diameter. This Moso bamboo is the hardest of all the bamboo species and is hand selected for our flooring, moldings, bamboo plywood and bamboo veneer. Our bamboo flooring is on an average of 25% harder than Northern Red Oak and 50% more stable. Higuera Hardwoods manufactures bamboo flooring in China where the majority of the world's bamboo products are manufactured in a couple dozen different factories; we have personally been to a majority of the factories. Our flooring is finished with seven coats of UV protected aluminum oxide finish with a reinforced urethane for a lifetime of normal service. Higuera Hardwoods offers only the highest quality of finish available by using a sprayed (instead of a more standard rolled) Aluminum Oxide coatings to meet the worlds ever expanding bamboo flooring market. Aluminum Oxide is our only coating that we will use do to its proven durability in all residential applications and in commercial applications such as Shopping Malls, Conference Room, Office buildings.

Both natural, carbonized and stained finishes are available in these dimensions:

Prefinished Solid

Unfinished Solid

3' x 3 7/8" x 5/8"

6” x 3 7/8” x 5/8”

6’ x 3 7/8” x 5/8”

Prefinished Engineered

Unfinished Engineered

6’ x 5” x 5/8”

6’ x 5” 5/8”

Vertical Cut
The vertical cut is distinguished by the "side-pressed" layering of the bamboo strips. This creates a more dense appearance, which is favored by certain customers. This cut comes in natural (light), Carbonized (dark) and stained versions.

Prefinished Solid

How Higuera Hardwoods Makes Flooring

1. Bamboo raw material process
Inspect stalk quality, select prime lengths and properly age material for all Higuera Hardwoods products. Cut to 35 to 40 feet in the field, stalks are inspected at the factory for proper age, cracking/splitting, pests and general appearance. The premium section of each stalk is selected for Higuera Hardwoods products and then cut into slats. The remaining pieces are sold to nearby factories for use by many other bamboo product companies.

2. Moisture control
All Slats are kiln-dried to confirm proper moisture content of approximately 6 to 9 percent, many companies take short cuts at this stage as power is expensive in China. After the slats have been treated in a borate solution to kill pests and mold, they rest in the kiln drying room until they achieve the optimal moisture content. This stabilizes the bamboo to prevent the high probability of cupping, de-lamination and expansion issues of end product.

3. Slat grading and sorting
All of Higuera Hardwoods slats are hand selected for the proper grain quality, coloring, and material consistency for thickness and length. They are then bundle by function in the end product (e.g., top "wear" layer or substrate), or sold as inferior to other companies. After the slats are planed, they are once again inspected and graded for use in either vertical grain or horizontal grain for our products. Only those with the highest quality, with a consistent grain and color are used solely for use in the visible top or "wear" layer. Others form the strong cores or substrates of products, and others are once more rejected and sold to other companies.

4. Moisture control
All of Higuera Hardwoods kiln dried bundles of slats have a confirm moisture content of approximately 6 to 9 percent before lamination.
Bamboo is a natural material that like other hardwood species absorbs and/or loses moisture from the air humidity content around it. Higuera Hardwoods always will invest in the proper amount of time in the acclimating of the slats at the different stages of the manufacturing process; we always ensure the optimum conditions of the raw material for each phase of manufacturing which also ensures the most durable end product for you.

5. Lamination
• Hand check each slat layer for consistent color and thickness before proceeding with adhesive lamination on the hydraulic press
• Ensure proper adhesive coverage
• Inspect final top layer once again to ensure that best slats are presented as wear surface
• Check hydraulic press plates for cleanliness, pressure and temperature.
• Inspect blanks-the laminated layers of slats-for potential de-lamination

6. Raw blank grading and sorting
Inspect grade and sort planks for voids, de-lamination, defects and/or inconsistent coloration.

7. Moisture control
After being stored in a humidity-controlled warehouse, blanks are rechecked for moisture content of approximately 6 to 9 percent.

8. Milling
• Plank inspection to ensure consistent milling tolerances from production run to production run

9. Sealing and sanding
• Inspect tongue-and-groove finish seal
• Sand product one time and inspect for sanding quality
Sealing the tongue-and-groove edge and underside is a very Important step for Higuera Hardwoods that helps prevent moisture absorption after installation and ensure long product life; many do not do this step.

10. Finish line
• Sand planks again before finishing and clean
• Inspect the 7-coat German aluminum oxide/polyurethane finish coatings

11. Packaging
• Inspect for correct type and quantity
• Final color inspection of planks before packaging

Higuera Hardwoods also has employees of Higuera Mouldings Ltd in China throughout production of any of our product lines for everyday quality control.
