Tactile Warning

Knurling and Abrasive Coating
Tactile warning is achieved by knurling or applying an abrasive coating to a knob or lever. This is the means of identifying hazardous areas such as electrical closets and mechanical equipment rooms to the visually impaired.

Knurling is available on D-Series Orbit and Plymouth knobs and the L-Series 41, 42, and 43 knobs. A textured filler is available on the inside of D-Series Athens, Rhodes, and Sparta levers. A textured pattern is available on all L-Series levers.

When ordering complete locks with knurled knobs or levers specify whether outside, inside, or both sides of lock trim are to be knurled. Prefix the design with 8. Example: 841, 802. Schlage A and D-Series Orbit and Plymouth designs, all L and S-Series designs are offered with abrasive coating. To order locks with abrasive coated knobs or levers, specify finish 412 over the base finish of the lock trim. Specify whether the outside, inside, or both sides are to have abrasive finish.
