TS100 Exterior Wall System

The TS100 Wall Panels are custom fabricated in our shop according to your design requirements. To insure compatibility with other building components, Thin Stone Systems, LLC will prepare and submit complete shop drawings for approval prior to fabrication. The TS100 Exterior Wall System comprises a variety of special extruded aluminum frames and shapes which must be precisely fabricated and precisely attached to the facing panels to achieve desired results. Fabricated panels and/or pre-assembled panels are delivered to the jobsite ready to be installed on the building substrate. All necessary loose clips, angles, and runners are included as part of the system.

The basic components of the exterior system are the fascia panel of thin reinforced stone, 3/8" thick, and the specially designed extruded aluminum framing which is shop applied to the back of the fascia panels. Mating and interlocking clips, angles, and runners provide the means to pre-assemble and/or anchor the panels or assemblies to the building substrate.

The TS100 Exterior Wall System is a very versatile system for utilizing, incorporating, and installing the thin reinforced stone in many different types of building construction, new or old. It supports the use of panels of large or small dimension with very simple attachment methods. The system consists of a series of extruded aluminum shapes which perform as perimeter frames and structrual stiffeners, corner angle supports, interlocking sleeves and clips which facilitate attachment to various substrates such as steel stud framing, plywood sheathing, brick or concrete block walls. The aluminum frames and stiffeners are shop-applied to the back of the thin reinforced stone fascia panels with structural silicone and, when required, mechanical self-locking anchors are inserted into the back of the stone panels and provide a positive mechanical connection between the stone veneer and the structural panels frames.

The TS100 Exterior Wall System acts as a self-contained structural unit. The framing system provides the necessary stiffness in the panels to resist the design windloads as required by the various building codes. The structural design of the framing system can easily be adjusted to resist the higher windloads where required without materially affecting the cost of the panel. Attachment to the building substrate is accomplished by means of mating and interlocking clips and wall runners which are integral parts of the wall system.

The TS100 Exterior Wall System has an in-built tolerance for temperature changes. The structural silicone attachment is designed with sufficient flexibility to compensate for expansion and contraction. The frame connections at the corners or intersections of perimeter frames are slip connections and will allow some movement in case of extreme temperature differentials. The panels offer advantages in seismic zones because of their light weight. The panels are ductile rather than rigid and brittle as is traditional stone. The interlocking attachment clips and frames allow panels to float in the wall runners as the building moves under the pressure of these external forces of wind, temperature, and seismic.

The TS100 Exterior Wall System is designed to allow the architect a wide latitude to develop different shapes, profiles, or design effects. The system lends itself to pre-assembly, particularly for edge returns at sills, soffitts, columns, etc. Complex profiles such as cornices and other design features can be pre-assembled in the shop and installed as one piece. In many cases, designing with stone is made much easier and more secure than with the more traditional procedures.

Advantages of the TS100 Exterior Wall System:
  • Dramatically reduced weight of large size panels - only 6 lbs. per sq.ft. as opposed to 27 lbs. for traditional stone 2" thick. This requires less costly handling equipment and labor, in panel assembly and fieldinstallation.
  • Increased speed of installation of individual panels whether on the building frame itself or a pre-fabricated truss or panel. Lightweight and easy to handle. Large panels are installed with greatly simplified attachment systems.
  • Possible reduction in building structural requirements either in wall systems, columns, or foundations due to the reduced weight of the TS Wall System relative to traditional wall systems. This could produce significant structural cost savings.
  • The TS Wall Systems' weight savings are most important advantage in earthquake zones. The reduced weight equates to a reduced seismic load transferred to the base of the structure.
  • Flexibility in the choice of general construction methods concerning the type of tradesmen to be used as installers and also in the choice of basic construction systems. Panels can be installed by various tradesmen including carpenters, glaziers, ironworkers as well as traditional stone workers.
  • The TS Wall System field-erects much faster than traditional stone. This equates to a substantial reduction in jobsite labor and overhead costs for erection and other costs savings due to shorter overall construction time.
