Unglazed ceramic quarry tile manufactured using the extrusion method. QUARRYBASICS®
are suitable for use indoors and outdoors. Metropolitan Ceramics quarry tile
is low absorption with a tight die skin surface and relieved edges. Because
the tile is not glazed, the natural earth tones are through the body.
Metropolitan quarry tile resists soiling, moisture, impact, and abrasion. The
unglazed surface is also slip resisting. Because of the natural raw materials
and the firing process, the tile produces no off gassing sometimes associated
with other flooring products. Metropolitan Ceramics products are maintenance
friendly, and when properly cared for will meet the most demanding applications
with years of quality service. The look of Metropolitan quarry tile can actually
be enhanced over time when subjected to a scheduled maintenance program. QUARRYBASICS®
represents the most popularly specified colors in the Metropolitan Ceramics
line.
Sizes and shapes range from the basic net 6" x 6" (152 x 152 mm) tiles
and nominal 8" x 8" (203 x 203 mm), 4" x 8" (102 x 203 mm)
and 4" x 4" (102 x 102 mm). Metropolitan offers a complete range of
matching trim pieces for the QUARRYBASICS® line. All QUARRYBASICS® are
1/2" thick.

IN EXCESS OF 60% RECYCLED CONTENT (Pre-consumer)
The production of our extruded quarry tile creates a by-product that cannot be added, in large volume, to our existing colors. Other manufacturing processes create by-products including glaze waste and fired scrap.
Through additional blending of large quantities of this by-product with virgin material, we are now able to offer a product with a pre-consumer* recycled content of over 60%. ENVIROQUARRY™ meets the same tough standards as our regular quarry product and is kiln flashed for random color variation and added appeal.
Metropolitan Ceramics® is pleased to bring to market a product that performs so well and has the potential to divert hundreds of tons of material from the waste stream.
NOTE: Because of the nature of ENVIROQUARRY™ (high recycled content) there may be some shade variation from run to run and within longer runs of the material. Flashing of the product will help in the blending of color variations, but some variation is to be expected in a product of this sort.
*pre-consumer recycled material is a waste product of a manufacturing process, diverted from the waste stream and not normally used by industry during the original manufacturing process.
ENVIROQUARRY™ is available in nominal 8 x 8 (7 5/8" x 7 5/8"), 6" x 6", and nominal 4 x 8 ( 3 5/8" x 7 5/8") sizes.

Metropolitan Ceramics' quarry tile with a metallic additive dispersed throughout
the body of the tile for enhanced slip resistance. All of the features and benefits
of the clear tone colors, designed for heavy traffic areas subject to frequent
spills and moisture. The QUARRYBASICS® X Colors have a coefficient of friction
of 0.9 dry and 0.7 wet, meet ADA guidelines as manufactured, and when properly maintained offer
enhanced slip resistance for the life of the installation. QUARRYBASICS X Colors
also have a distinctive "speckled" look that is appealing and helps
hide dirt and marks. Because of the nature of the additive, X-Colors will perform
best when maintained using the proper equipment. A copy of our maintenance guide
is available from our web site, www.metroceramics.com. While the metallic additive
makes the X-Colors the optimum choice for high traffic commercial applications
with slip/fall concerns, the texture of the surface may preclude using QUARRYBASICS®
X Colors in some commercial and residential applications.
QUARRYBASICS® X Colors are available in 6 x 6, nominal 4 x 8 (3 5/8"
x 7 5/8") and
8 x 8 (7 5/8" x 7 5/8") sizes. The tiles are 1/2" thick. Matching
bullnose trim is available in X colors, and coordinating trim is available in
QUARRYBASICS® clear tone colors.

METRO TREAD® System treaded tile is the second option offered from Metropolitan
Ceramics for heavy traffic areas subject to frequent spills and moisture. METRO
TREAD® is produced with nine raised treads across the surface of each tile.
The "ribs" are spaced 5/8" apart for added slip resistance that
will not wear off. The treaded surface is part of the tile body. METRO TREAD®
has the same features and benefits of Metropolitan's other fine quarry products,
with the added benefit of increased slip resistance due to the raised tread
surface. Because of the treaded surface, METRO TREAD® has a coefficient
of friction of 0.9 dry and 0.7 wet at time of manufacture. METRO TREAD® meets
ADA guidelines as manufactured.
METRO TREAD® is a floor system and should be used in one of two of the following
patterns, depending on the application:
"Checkerboard system" features the direction of the ribs alternating
from tile to tile. This pattern is suitable for open areas such as commercial
kitchens and industrial applications.
"Linear system" with the ribs installed running in the same direction
across the width of the installation, is used in areas where traffic flow is perpendicular
to the direction of the ribbed-tread. Suitable for walkways, entryways and access
ramps as well as on stair steps.
METRO TREAD® is available in 6" x 6" x 1/2" size.
METRO TREAD® is available in three colors, MT31T Mayflower Red, MT57T Puritan
Gray and MT15T Buckskin.
Somerset™ combines the natural appeal of rich shade variation from tile
to tile, with the durability and slip resisting features and benefits of our other
Metropolitan Quarry tile. Somerset™ is the perfect answer for restoration
and renovation projects, indoors and out. Somerset™ also works well for
new construction where a classic style is the desired result. Somerset™
is suitable for both commercial installations such as a courtyard or entryways
and residential applications such as a patio, walkway or foyer. There was a time
when most hard fired ceramic products were functional, durable and naturally rich
in character. The unrefined raw materials, wood or coal fuel, and the firing process
itself combined to give the fired product deeply varied hues that could be influenced,
but seldom controlled by the artisan. In an effort to recapture those natural
colors and effects, Metropolitan has worked to recreate the conditions that made
naturally fired tile so richly varied in depth of color and tone. Somerset is
the result. Subtle yet strong earth tones, mellow ranges and deep hues, combine
to make Somerset timeless and at the same time compatible with contemporary designs
and materials. Recapture this classic tradition in renovations and new construction.
Somerset™ is available in 6 x 6, nominal 8 x 8 (7 5/8 x 7 5/8) and nominal
4 x 8 (3 5/8 x 7 5/8) sizes.
Somerset™ is available in #250 Galaxy, #350 Harvard Square, #255 Aztec
and #458 Cordoba.
Eco Quarry™ was developed as a 3/8" thick alternative to standard

Metropolitan Ceramics Epoxy System Quarry is a square edge quarry tile product
designed specifically for use with installations that require an epoxy grout
application* The advantage METRO ESQ has over other square edge products, is
that most others are ground to square. METRO ESQ is manufactured with a square
edge. There is no compromise of the die skin, making METRO ESQ less susceptible
to chipping.
-
Designed specifically to be used with epoxy grout. For jobs that specify
epoxy.
-
All of the benefits of Metropolitan Quarry. Now in a square edge tile.
- METRO ESQ can be set with a 1/4" or smaller grout joint. Perfect
for setting with 1/4" tile racks.
-
Manufactured with a square edge, not ground to square. Less chance of chipping
because the tile maintains its die skin.
-
Designed for flush grout joints. Smooth transition from tile to tile.
