In a ballasted single-ply roof system, ballast holds the single-ply insulation in place and protects it from solar loading.

Fully Adhered Single-Ply Roof System

Single-Ply foam board can be fully adhered to roofs but solvent-based membrand adhesives and dark color membranes require a cover board, such as 1/2" wood fiber, between the insulation and the membrane. A light-color, chemically compatible membrane can be applied directly to polystyrene insulation with water-based adhesives. All FOAMULAR® roof insulations can be installed directly on concrete, gypsum, wood and Tectum decks.

Mechanically Attached Single-Ply Roof System

Single-Ply foam board can be mechanically attached to steel-deck roofs, but solvent-based membrand adhesives and dark color membranes require a cover board, such as 1/2" wood fiber, between the insulation and the membrane. A light-color, chemically compatible membrane can be applied directly to polystyrene insulation. All FOAMULAR® roof insulations can be installed directly on concrete, gypsum, wood and Tectum decks.

Metal Roofing

Metal panel roof systems require a minimum 3/8" air gap between the underside of the metal panel and the covered or uncovered insulation board. THERMAPINK® should be attached with stress plates, and should only be used over steel decks if a thermal barrier, typically gypsum board, is installed between the deck and the THERMAPINK®.

THERMAPINK® insulation has long-term thermal resistance stability compared to polyisocyanurate foam products. It also provides efficiencies during installation such as "direct-to-steel deck" with no gypsum board thermal barrier needed in most commercial single-ply and metal roofing systems.

Owens Corning’s FOAMULAR® extruded polystyrene insulation is an ENERGY STAR® qualified product. Other grades may be available with minimum order quantities.
