Overview

Pivots

The Ives high-quality pivots reduce the stress on a frame by distributing the door weight throughout the floor and structure.

Pivots reduce stress on the frame by distributing the door weight throughout the floor and structure. By taking advantage of the structure strength, this makes a pivot the ideal solution for heavy doors. Center and pocket pivots also provide an aesthetic option for an opening.

Ives offers a complete line of 3/4" offset, 1-1/2" offset, center hung, intermediate, pocket and power transfer pivots with all exposed parts made of brass or stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance. The offerings include high strength brass and stainless steel forgings, as well as castings for fire-rated and non-rated doors, combined with precision bearings for smooth operation. The positive locking vertical adjustment mechanism allows the installer to precisely position the door and balance the load.

Designs

  • 3/4” offset: the center of the pivot point is offset from the face of the door by ¾”, allowing the door to swing almost 180° if flush trim is on the door
  • 1-1/2” offset: the center of the pivot point is offset from the face of the door by 1-1/2”, allowing the door to swing almost 180° if there is a lever handle or pull on the door
  • Intermediate: middle hinge style pivots made for the middle of the door and are used in conjunction with a top and bottom pivot, increasing the door load capacity or fire rating requirements
NOTE: NFPA 80, Section 3-3.8 requires intermediate pivot(s) on some fire door applications; consult catalog and factory for more information
  • Center hung: the pivot is centered within the door’s thickness and installed directly above and below the door so there is not offset
  • Power transfer: Ives offers electrified intermediate power transfer pivots to transfer power and signals from the frame to the door; pivots are generally used on heavier exterior door applications
  • Pocket: the pocket pivot allows the door to open a full 90° and is designed for a seamless appearance, due to it being recessed into the wall pocket; ideal for applications with corridors
