MR-MANUFACTURER

ZIP-RIB is manufactured by Merchant & Evans, Inc., Burlington, NJ [800-257-6215 or 609-387-3033]. Manufacturing capabilities also include job site production on state of the art roll forming equipment which meet the strict fabrication tolerances established by factory production standards. Merchant & Evans' history dates back to 1866 heralding a tradition of engineering and craftsmanship. The history and strength of these two companies go hand in hand with ZIP-RIB's high performance and strong foundation established by Kaiser Aluminum Corporation over 35 years ago.

PP-PRODUCT PRESENTATION

ZIP-RIB was the first true structural/functional standing seam metal roof system anchored via concealed clips thus permitting expansion and contraction of the panel assembly yet resistive to design wind uplift forces. It was introduced in 1963 by Kaiser Aluminum and has set the industry standard for performance ever since. Originally a work-horse product used for its structural and weathertight performance in aggressive environments, however, the product transformed into an aesthetically pleasing roof system with the commencement of coil coated metals in a variety of architectural colors and finishes. Over 35 years of proven performance in some of the world's harshest environments from Coastal Alaska to the Caribbean and a marquis on some of this country's premier architectural monuments make it first choice among many key building owners and design professionals.

UA-USES, APPLICATIONS

ZIP-RIB's performance level permits its use on a wide spectrum of construction types from open purlin to metal deck to wood substrates. It can be used on slopes as low as 1/4" per foot, on barrel vaults, and buildings requiring tapered panels. Although structural and functional, its aesthetics cannot be overlooked.

AI-ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION

ZIP-RIB is manufactured in 12" and 16" widths and has a 2-1/2" standing seam which is mechanically crimped in the field by a power driven tool to achieve the utmost in weathertight and wind uplift performance. ZIP-RIB is installed by capable, trained erectors/installers. Prior to installation of panels on any project, the installer has earned the authorization to apply ZIP-RIB as a "certified" contractor erector.

MF-MATERIALS, FINISHES

ZIP-RIB is engineered to be manufactured primarily in aluminum and steel substrates. However, copper, terne-coated stainless steel, lead coated copper, and zinc substrates are feasible on a job to job basis. Typical aluminum thicknesses are 0.032", 0.040", and 0.050". Typical aluminum-zinc alloy (Galvalume) and G-90 coated steel gauges are 24, 22, and 20 GA. All substrates are available with either a smooth or stucco embossed textured finish.

CS-COATINGS, SURFACING

Full strength fluorocarbon [Kynar 500 and Hylar 5000] coatings in a wide variety of colors are commonly used for architectural metals, however, silicone polyesters, multi-mil fluorocarbons and vinyl plastisol systems are available to meet specific project requirements.

TS-TECHNICAL SUPPORT

ZIP-RIB technical support is second to none in the industry. In-house engineers and technically oriented sales people are there to assist designers in any stage of development. Guide specifications in various formats and CADD details are available direct from the factory or your local representative (see the SWEET'S SHOWCASE to follow for a complete Guide Spec). Also, call your area ZIP-RIB manufacturer for the latest edition of the ZIP-RIB Design Guide. Contained within are: technical data specific to ZIP-RIB, design considerations such as thermal movement and corrosion resistance, fastener selection guidelines, design details, and snow area precautions such as ice dams, snow guards, and fixed points. Put over 35 years of proven product performance to work for you on your next project.

CC-CODES, CERTIFICATION

ZIP-RIB has more approvals than any other system on the market today. Its history has a high performance system has lead to certifications such as: UL 90 wind uplift classification, UL Class "A" fire resistance, UL CETW category acceptance for fire resistance approval on various P-XXX construction numbers, and New York City MEA approval. Testing on the system has been done in accord with ASTM E283 and ASTM E331 (air and water infiltration), ASTM E1592 clarified for standing seam metal roofing (positive and negative load resistance), AAMA 501-83 (dynamic wind and water penetration, formerly NAAM-TM-1), and thermal cycle testing has been performed to determine wear through resistance of the panel to clip interface.

OM-OPERATION, MAINTENANCE

ZIP-RIB is virtually maintenance free. Long term warranties are available covering the Finish, Structural Integrity, and Weathertightness of the product. Good maintenance practices would dictate a yearly inspection by the owner to ensure free drainage of all rainwater collectors and visual inspection of flashings to ensure that all are functioning properly. Contact the roofing contractor or area manufacturer prior to performing work on any roof under warranty.
