This is Fire-Trol:

A prefabricated, fireproofed unit consisting of a load-bearing steel column (A), encased in a special proprietary insulating material (B), which is permanently protected by an outer nonload-bearing steel shell (C). Fire-Trol columns are rated and labeled by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., for fire retardant classifications of 2, 3, and 4 hours. Columns are completely shop fabricated and shipped to job site ready to erect.

UL-Classified Fire-Trol Prefabricated Fireproofed Columns speed construction, reduce costs, improve quality.

The superiority inherent in the Fire-Trol column advanced concept of fireproofing building columns is the result of years of research and testing – over 50 years of know-how and experience. This special, prefabricated, fireproofed steel column has changed the complexion of the whole construction industry, making conventional field applied fireproofing methods obsolete.

With field labor costs increasing constantly, the Fire-Trol column method of prefabrication has created a fireproofed column capable of not only reflecting lower initial costs but also lower construction costs and other long range economies as well. Every time Fire-Trol columns are specified for a fire-resistive structure, money is automatically designed out of it.

The savings continue even at the job site. For example: The problem of quality control in the field is now eliminated and field construction is reduced to erecting the Fire-Trol column in the same manner as an ordinary unprotected steel column. No longer must a structure be enclosed and heated prior to fireproofing. There is no waiting time for forms to be erected or wallboard to be installed and no delays caused by inclement weather...and no curing time or drying time for concrete and plaster.

These UL-classified, 2 through 4 hour rated, columns also allow other building trades to schedule more accurately and economically; the installation costs for such components as sash, curtain walls and door frames may be cut drastically through the use of simplified anchoring systems to Fire-Trol's steel shell.

This rugged, low maintenance jacket is the most distinctive feature of Fire-Trol’s unique design. After a finish coat of paint, the columns are ideal for both interior and exterior installations. Optional hot-dipped galvanizing further enhances the corrosive resistant qualities of Fire-Trol shells.

With the ever-increasing costs of on-site subcontractors, the use of Fire-Trol columns with their inherent shop-controlled characteristics is the solution to unpredictable variables common with field applied fireproofing alternatives. Remember, significant erection cost control starts the moment Fire-Trol is specified.

All Fire-Trol columns are UL-classified, rated and labeled for the various fire retardant classifications from 2 through 4 hours and are available in a multitude of shapes...square, round, rectangular, and in almost any size...to blend aesthetically in the overall design of your building.

The various economies possible through the practical application of Fire-Trol fireproofed steel columns in the construction of parking garages, schools, shopping centers and other modern industrial installations, are myriad...use them as free-standing supports, make them part of the walls, or project them from the exterior wall surfaces to create a modular panel effect that is both space saving and handsome. The durability and flexible design criteria of Fire-Trol's exterior shells also enhance their appeal for such varied applications as parking garage interiors and entryways, warehouses and mill areas without additional protective sheathing. The precision formed edges, exclusive scale free and easily maintained surfaces say QUALITY every time.
