Pemko offers a variety of positive pressure solutions with our door and frame edge sealing products. All Pemko edge sealing products meet or exceed the ANSI/BHMA 156.22-2003 standard. Many fire rated door assemblies (currently listed for UL10B) can now be listed for positive pressure by using Hot Smoke Seal™ in combination with SiliconSeal™. Consult individual door and/or frame manufacturers for specific listing information. In addition, Pemko’s door and edge sealing products have certain features and design elements that are beyond the standard of our industry. Our commitment to research and development, product testing, quality and service gives us the progressive edge in the applied science of door sealing.
- Extruded from high temperature silicone: effective between -100°F and 800°F.
- Seals begin compressing at 1/4" (S88), 5/16" (S77), 3/8" (S44), and can all be compressed sufficiently to seal openings with 1/16" gaps, making door latching easy.
- Self-extinguishing and non-toxic. Unaffected by sunlight, ozone, and ultraviolet rays.
- Impervious to fungus and mildew; will not deteriorate under normal exposure.
- Smoke tested by WYLE Laboratories in accordance with UL 1784-90; meets the requirements of NFPA 105 "Installation of Smoke Control Door Assemblies".
- Meets FAR 25.853 Airworthiness Standards for Compartment Interiors.
Numerous door system configurations have been tested – over 100 technical data sheets are available at www.pemko.com.
S44 is designed for tighter frames and demonstrates extremely low closing force. S44 SiliconSeal™ is air infiltration tested in accordance with ASTM E-283-91. Air infiltration is only .09 CFM/ft of crack. Available colors: dark bronze and white. S44 is available in 17’, 20’, 21’, 25’ and 510’ coils.
S77 is designed for hollow metal and wood door meeting stile applications. S77 is air infiltration tested in accordance with ASTM E-283-91. Air infiltration is only .09 CFM/ft of crack. Available colors: clear, dark bronze and white. S77 is available in 7’, 9’, 17’, 20’ and 25’ coils.
S88 is air infiltration tested in accordance with ASTM E-283-91. Air infiltration is only .09 CFM/ft of crack. Available colors: black, clear, dark bronze, beige and white. S88 is available in 17’, 20’, 21’, 25’ 30’, 204’ and 510’ coils.
- Seals begin compressing at 3/16", and both can be compressed sufficiently to seal openings with 1/16" gaps, making door latching easy.
- Excellent resistance to compression set, particularly at elevated temperatures and for extended periods of time.
- Stays flexible between -70°F and 250°F with very high resistance to flex fatigue.
- Outstanding ozone resistance rating.
- Smoke tested by WYLE Laboratories in accordance with UL 1784-90; meets the requirements of NFPA 105 "Installation of Smoke Control Door Assemblies".
PK33 is designed for tighter frames and demonstrates extremely low closing force. Available colors: black, dark bronze and white. PK33 is available in 17’, 20’, 21’, 25’ and 510’ coils.
PK55 is designed for tighter frames and demonstrates extremely low closing force. Available colors: black, dark bronze and white. PK55 is available in 17’, 20’, 21’, 25’ and 510’ coils.
Pemko’s intumescent and fire/smoke gasketing products have assisted numerous door and frame manufacturers in complying with the new stringent positive pressure standards UL10C and UBC7-2, Parts I and II, UBC7-2, Part I (for fire) and UBC7-2, Part II (for smoke). The new positive pressure building codes require stopping the passage of smoke, flames and hot gasses. Product categories include: Hot Smoke Seal™– Adhesive Backed and Kerf-In Intumescent, SiliconSeal™ – Adhesive Backed Fire/Smoke Gasketing, PemkoPrene™ and Adhesive Backed Fire/Smoke Gasketing. Many fire rated door assemblies (currently listed for UL10B) can now be listed for positive pressure (UL10C) by using Hot Smoke Seal™ in combination with SiliconSeal™. Consult individual door and/or frame manufacturers for specific listing information.
Positive pressure testing shows that many assemblies require two kinds of door seals: 1.) A seal that helps prevent the flow of smoke and flames at ambient temperatures. 2.) A seal that does the same at elevated temperatures. Pemko has a superior line of door seals to help prevent smoke and flame passage at temperatures up to 800° F. Pemko’s HSS1000 and HSS2000 expandable graphite strip starts filling the gap around a door once temperatures reach 250° F. As life threatening smoke and gases heat up, Hot Smoke Seal™ begins to expand and fill the gap. Hot Smoke Seal™, when fully expanded, helps to prevent fire and smoke penetration.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ is a chemically inert, highly stable, expandable graphite strip.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ is tested and proven in positive pressure conditions to withstand both hot smoke and hot gasses, resulting in the longer integrity of a door assembly.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ is more economical to use than specially modified doors in “tested assembly only” classifications.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ can be painted to blend in with the finish of a frame.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ is chemically inert, and therefore will not degrade from carbon dioxide and ozone like the many intumescents being offered by other manufacturers.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ is not affected by moisture and will not break down like fiber or cellulose based products.
- Hot Smoke Seal™ does not require periodic after market field inspections.
HSS1000 Hot Smoke Seal™ is a non-adhesive backed intumescent. Available in 7’, 8’, 18’, 21’ and 24’ coils.
HSS200 Hot Smoke Seal™ is an adhesive backed intumescent. Available in 7’, 8’, 18’, 21’ and 24’ coils.
