The PemkoHinge™ consists of two full-height, paired gear aluminum extruded leaves that enable the hinge to rotate evenly from top to bottom. The result is a smooth, clean action which diminishes heavy swing weights by evenly distributing the door load throughout the entire length of the frame. The design of the two interlocking leaves of the PemkoHinge™ serves a variety of functions which include: the elimination of door sag, door alignment problems, warping, allows minimal effort door operation, and reinforces the door and jamb. The PemkoHinge™ continuous hinges also provide safety and security by closing the gap between the door edge and jamb thus preventing pinched fingers.
No other hinge has the superior construction and quality of a PemkoHinge™ continuous hinge. Pemko Manufacturing Company uses precision-formed, high quality Delrin® –Teflon® bearings in the PemkoHinge™. This allows for smooth operation with little effort and less wear and tear of a conventional hinge.
The leaf construction of the PemkoHinge™ consists of two rigidly formed aluminum 6063-T6 extrusions with inter-meshing gear segments. The PemkoHinge™ is anodized after machining creating a very hard, durable wear surface much tougher than mill finish aluminum.
PemkoHinge™ continuous hinges come in a variety of styles including: full-mortise, full-surface, full-mortise wide throw, half-surface, full-mortise raised gear, full-mortise residential, and light duty aluminum door hinges. Electrically modified hinges are available including current transfer and monitoring.
These hinges are designed for new, retrofit or bi-fold applications. Full-mortise hinges conceal the hinge leaves when the door is in the closed position. Full-mortise hinges are available in Standard, Kawneer, Short Leaf Flush, and Short Leaf Inset.
The Special Hull-Mortise Hinge is designed for aluminum door and frame applications where the hinge leaf may interfere with the applied stop or weather-stripping on the frame. The Special Full-Mortise Hinge is installed in the mortise configuration so that it conceals both hinge leaves when the door is in the closed position. The Special Full-Mortise Hinges come in the following styles: Standard, Short Leaf Flush, Short Leaf Inset, and Raised Gear Continuous Geared Aluminum Hinge for metal or wood frame with applied casing.
These hinges are designed primarily for new door applications that require extra clearance due to special frame or door trim designs. The hinge is installed in the mortise configuration that conceals both hinge leaves when the door is in the closed position.
Designed for new door applications in child care and nursing facilities, the Full-Mortise "Safety Hinge" provides extra clearance between the door and frame. It is installed in the mortise configuration concealing both leaves when the door is in the closed position.
Half-surface hinges come in standard and half-surface safety and are designed primarily for use with hollow metal frames and retrofit work. One half of the hinge is applied to the exterior face of the door and the other half of the hinge is mounted onto the frame rabbit concealing it when the door is in the closed position.
Full-surface units come in standard full-surface and in center pivot styles. The Full-Surface Hinges are designed primarily for retrofit work on existing doors and frames. One half of the hinge is applied to the exposed face of the door and the other half of the hinge is mounted to the exposed face of the frame. The center pivot units easily replace butt hinges since no door or frame adjustments are necessary. Also, center pivot hinges are more versatile with restricted frame faces.
Full-mortise residential hinges are designed mainly for new door and frame applications, and are applied so as to conceal both leaves. Full-mortise residential hinges come in 1-3/4" or 1-3/8" styles to accommodate the different thickness of doors.
FirePins™ are only required for use on a 3 Hour (A Label) UL Fire Rated Assemblies up to and including 4'-0" × 10'-0" and 8'-0" × 10'-0" assemblies without restrictions for gauge of metal or wall type conditions. Special FirePins™ consist of an intumescent material incased in a stainless steel pin. 3 Hour Fire Labels are available in full-mortise and half-surface PemkoHinges™.
The Aluminum Hinges come in two styles: full-mortise and full-surface to accommodate aluminum doors under 90lbs. The Full-Mortise Hinges are designed mainly for new door applications, and are applied so as to conceal both leaves. The Full-Surface Hinges are applied to the exterior face of the door and the other half of the hinge is mounted to the exterior face of the frame on new or existing light weight door application.
The PemkoHinge™ is available electrically modified with a bonded 4 or 8 conductor flat ribbon cable with plug connectors on each end to enable quick and effortless electrical connection at the door and frame. No need for expensive electric power transfer hardware or confusing hollow metal door and frame preps. The 4 conductor flat ribbon cable is rated for 4 amps @ 24 volts with the capability to handle a 16 amp in rush current @ 300 milliamps. This electrical modification is provided with a 4-amp in-line fuse to protect the cable from any continuous overload accident or from a direct short to ground.
