Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc. — Minnesota Limestone (Dolomitic)

Minnesota Limestone…

Mankato Kasota Stone is a dolomitic limestone quarried and fabricated in Southern Minnesota. What makes this five-hundred-million-year-old stone distinctive is its magnesium rich property that produces a stronger, less porous, abrasion resistant limestone, which allows a unique variety of cuts and finishes to be used for either interior or exterior applications from simple pavers to towering skyscrapers.

Over four generations ago…

Founder T.R. Coughlan was an Irish immigrant who came to Mankato Minnesota in 1883 after working as a masonry foreman on the historic Stone Arch Bridge, which remains the only one of its kind spanning the great Mississippi River. Since then, Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc. has quarried and fabricated Minnesota Limestone from the rich deposits of natural dolomitic stone in Southern Minnesota. From its inception the company was a leader in the westward expansion of the United States in the early twentieth century by providing extremely durable, premium building stone for bridges, depots and warehouses constructed to support the railroads’ western progress. In ensuing years, particularly after World War I, Minnesota Limestone supplied by Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc. became increasingly popular for use in the construction of institutional and commercial buildings throughout the Midwestern and Eastern United States. During this period many post offices, cathedrals, universities, museums and federal buildings utilized the stone quarried by Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc. Most notable of these buildings is the grand Philadelphia Museum of Art, which has maintained its original beauty for generations.

Today, Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc. remains a dominant force in the building industry supplying Minnesota Limestone for both interior and exterior applications for a wide variety of projects across the United States as well as in the International market.
