RHINO-DEK™

The optimal choice for spanning over brackish and saltwater bodies.

The polymer laminate coating, applied to preformed structural galvanized steel, gives RHINO-DEK™ an impervious barrier of protection against corrosion and abrasion.

RHINO-DEK™ offers flexibility in developing stay in place form systems for both concrete and steel bridge structures and provides contractors with an efficient method for forming bridge deck slabs.

Designed by CSi® engineers, RHINO-DEK™ is available in 19 profiles which span distances ranging from 18 in. to 14-ft. RHINO-DEK™ is suitable for both new construction and bridge rehabilitation.

ADVANTAGES OF USING RHINO-DEK™

  • Ease of installation: reduced construction time.
  • Savings in labor cost: no need to strip forms underneath bridge.
  • Safety considerations: working platform on bridge.
  • Design flexibility: applicable to both steel and concrete bridge structures.
  • Resists corrosion and abrasion.
  • Designed specifically to span over brackish and saltwater bodies.
  • Engineered to last the design life of the bridge.

RHINO-DEK™
stay in place deck forms and accessories will be fabricated from steel conforming with ASTM Specifications A653 and A924 having a minimal coating of G165 on structural steel grades 40 and 50. The polymer laminate coating is applied prior to roll forming and conforms to the ASTM Standards listed in Physical Propertied from RHINO-DEK™ Laminate Table. The steel unit working stress minimum yield strength or a maximum of 35,000 psi.

RHINO-DEK™ is designed based on the applicable dead load (deflection), which will not be less than 120 psf. The minimum total load (stress) will be the actual dead load (weight of concrete and deck) plus an additional 50psf construction load. RHINO-DEK™ incorporates the deflection and other design criteria required by the applicable governing jurisdictions. Typically, deflection under the dead load (Wd) will not exceed the design span (L) divided by 180 or 1/2", which ever is less.

Physical design properties are computed in accordance to the latest published edition of the American Iron Steel Institute's (AIS) "Specifications of the Design of Cold-Formed Steel."
