WINDOW FRAMES & GLAZING

Lead-Lined View Window Frames

These frames are lead-lined to match the shielding level of the wall where they are installed. They are available in a variety of frame materials, profiles, and construction. A voice passage is optional in all designs. Two designs are featured:

Hollow Metal – Fixed

This type is the simplest and most economical of frames. It is designed for new construction and is built into the wall or barrier before drywall is installed.

Hollow Metal – Slip Type

This two piece steel frame “plugs” together into a rough opening after the wall is finished. It is ideal for existing construction since each frame is designed for a specific wall thickness.

Special-Design Windows

These are custom designs, built to fit an architect's plan, for applications such as:

  • Sloped glazing to reduce glare
  • Mullions to allow extended frames beyond 8'0" in width (the maximum lead glass width available)
  • A one-piece frame joined at any angle with another, while still retaining shielding protection

Frame Glazing Material

Lead glass or Saf-T-Lite (a laminated lead glass/safety glass product) is used to shield from radiation while providing vision into the treatment area.

Lead glass is available in shielding equivalences up to 3.2mm (1/8" lead) and Saf-T- Lite is available up to 1.59mm (1/16" lead). Other special lead glazing at heavier thicknesses is available, especially with regard to PET scan projects. Glazing must match or exceed frame and associated wall shielding and X-Ray peak voltage levels.

Care must be taken with both types of material to avoid scratching and breakage during installation or normal cleaning operations.

Special designs are required for window frames using lead acrylic due to the glazing thickness.
