Aluminum Riveted Grating – AR Series
PRODUCT PRESENTATION
The elder statesman, and still the
most reliable of grating products where ruggedness and durability are concerned,
is riveted grating. This grating is composed of straight bearing bars and
bent connecting bars, which are joined at their contact points by rivets.
Since the connecting bars extend continuously between bearing bars along
the grating span, they not only serve to join the bearing bars together,
but they also contribute to the load carrying capability and lateral stability
of grating panels.
Bearing bar sizes range from 1" x
1/8" through 2-1/2" x 3/16" in 1/4" increments. Riveted grating is available
with 1-1/8" or 3/4" between bearing bar faces, and with connecting bars
riveted at 7" or 3-1/2" centers. For those areas requiring skid resistance
due to the presence of moisture or oily substances, Aluminum Riveted grating
is available with a serrated connecting bar. This bar is raised 3/16" above
the surface of the bearing bars, and provides a grip-fast surface for the
soles of shoes.
OVERALL PRODUCT
Standard Grating Details
Typical details for grating frames
and grating anchorage methods are shown in the CAD details attached to
this profile, accessible through the "CAD" button on the interface.
General recommendations for installation
include:
1. Grating must be installed with
the cross bars on the top side.
2. All gratings should be anchored
to their supports by positive means. See the "Grating Anchorage Details"
section below.
3. A minimum of 1" bearing shall
be provided.
Extruded Aluminum Grating Frames
Available for use with all types
of aluminum grating is an extruded frame for embedded concrete applications.
This frame features a continuous ledge to accommodate plank fasteners,
grating clamps, or self-tapping screws for saddle clips or anchor blocks.
This ledge allows the grating to be fastened to the frame without the necessity
of pre-drilling into the concrete. The extruded design also incorporates
a labor saving continuous anchor. The continuous anchor can be used alone,
or in conjunction with supplementary anchor straps.
Angle frame is available fabricated
per drawings with mitred corners, or in long lengths with prefabricated
corners for installation in the field. Frames can be provided in the mill
finished condition or with a coat of bituminous paint on surfaces which
will come into contact with concrete.
Grating Anchorage Details
All gratings should be firmly anchored
to their supports by positive means. The method of anchorage depends on
the circumstances of the application in question. Refer to the CAD details
attached to this profile, accessible through the "CAD" button on the interface
for isometric details of the following anchorage devices for use with the
AR Series:
Z Clip
The most versatile clip anchor available
is the Z clip. These clips are especially helpful for holding down riveted
grating. Z clips are manufactured from stainless steel and are available
in 1" (for use with 1" and 1-1/4" grating), 1-1/2" (for use with 1-1/2"
and 1-3/4" grating) and 2" (for use with 2", 2-1/4" and 2-1/2" grating).
Z clips come with a pre-punched hole to accept a 1/4" bolt or TEK screw.
ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION
Fabrication Guidelines
Frame sections can be purchased
in stock lengths for customer fabrication, or can be fabricated by Ohio
Gratings for immediate installation in the field. The following guidelines
apply to fabricated frames:
1. All corners are mitered at 45
degrees and welded on the back side. Welds are not ground.
2. Nominal small frames (i.e., 1'-0"
x 1'-0" through 5'-0" x 10'-0") are made in one piece.
3. Extended trench frames are provided
with prefabricated end sections and long lengths shipped loose for field
butt joining.
4. Stock lengths are 20'-0". Longer
lengths are available by request.
Architectural Applications and
Tolerances
"Aluminum grating is an industrial
footwalk product, intended for use in catwalks, platforms, and stairways,
and designed to be installed in a fastened condition. This grating is also
subject to manufacturing and fabrication tolerances as dictated by the
NAAMM Metal Bar Manual. While these tolerances and the various finishes
available are suitable for most industrial applications, they may not be
appropriate for some commercial or architectural uses. Please contact the
factory for further specification assistance."

SLIP-NOT Safety Surface Available
ALUMINUM Riveted Series grating
is available with SLIP-NOT Grip Grate safety surface for maximum traction.
The SLIP-NOT process provides for the plasma stream deposition of aluminum
on aluminum resulting in a random hatch matrix which continuously presents
new abrasive faces as the surface slowly wears.
SLIP-NOT exceeds OSHA standards for
"Slip Resistance" in dry, wet, and oily conditions.
SLIP-NOT is generally applied after
grating fabrication, however, grating treated with
SLIP-NOT can be cut, punched, drilled,
or welded in the shop or in the field.
For complete technical information on SLIP-NOT,
refer to the Sweets catalog for W.S. Molnar Co., 05542/SLI. SLIP-NOT Grip Grate
is a registered trademark of W.S. Molnar Co.
