A. Base
Individual pedestal frames for Piretti, 1000 Poly, Dorsal, or Vertebra shells (without provision for a writing surface) shall be available with square or round column. The column shall be a three-piece construction and shall consist of an 11-gauge round steel housing welded to an 11-gauge square or round column and welded to an 11-gauge 6" x 8" rectangular floor plate (both round and square columns have rectangular floor plates). The die-formed steel floor plate shall fasten to the floor through 1/2" holes pierced in each corner to accommodate four floor anchors (not provided). Seat shall swivel on a 3/4" diameter carbon steel shaft welded to the 11-gauge formed cold rolled steel seat spider and inserted into the cam operated return mechanism which shall be molded from engineering plastics. The contact between the top cam and the bottom cam shall control the rotation. Standard rotation shall be 360 degrees. A plastic molded column trim cap shall cover the return mechanism. A plastic molded escutcheon cover shall be available on the square column base only.

B. Shells
1. Piretti Managerial (1000)
Seat innerstructure shall be constructed of a plastic pan to which foam is glued and upholstery is attached. Backrest innerstructure shall be formed of molded plastic and foam shall be molded, front and back, over the plastic inner back. Molded foam bellows shall connect the seat and backrest. A molded plastic seat liner shall cover the seat underside. The back tilt shall be 17 degrees. Two hidden lever mechanisms which respond to the users weight shall be located in the seat. Each has a double cam action. The rear cam shall be tied to the back structure and shall be set in motion when the occupant leans back. This, in turn, through a spring linkage, shall activate the front cam at a slightly different ratio (1-1/2 to 1). The mechanism shall consist of stamped steel frame and levers, a steel spring and molded Delrin and nylon components. It shall be calibrated at the factory and need no further adjustment.

2. Piretti 2000 Managerial
Seat and back innerstructure shall be constructed of 7/16" thick plywood. Molded foam shall be glued to the plywood and covered with upholstery fabric. A molded plastic seat liner shall cover the seat underside and a molded plastic back shroud shall cover the back of the chair.

3. Piretti 2000 Task
Seat and back innerstructure shall be constructed of 1/2" thick 7-ply plywood. Molded foam shall be glued to the plywood and covered with upholstery fabric. A molded plastic seat liner shall cover the seat underside, and a molded plastic back shroud shall cover the back of the chair. A fully upholstered back is available. An adjustable height back shall be available as standard allowing 2-1/4" of vertical travel in five incremental steps and shall lock and unlock automatically without levers. An optional adjustable back angle inclination shall also be available in a range from 87 degrees to 100 degrees. The user shall be able to infinitely vary the angle of the inclination of the back by raising a lever.

4. Piretti Torsion
Seats and backrests are molded compound curved polypropylene with a textured finish. Seat is two piece construction. Two die cast aluminum backrest supports attach the backrest to the Torsion mechanism. A steel tube is cast into each backrest support for added strength. The back flex is achieved by the Torsion mechanism. It consists of two flat torsion springs captured at both ends by brass bushings which in turn engage with the backrest supports. The Torsion mechanism creates gradually increasing resistance over the full 12 degrees of back flex. Upholstered chairs have partially exposed polypropylene surfaces. Fabric is upholstered over 9/16" foam on the backrest and 1-1/2" foam on the seat.

5. 1000 Series Polypropylene
One-piece molded seats and backrest design on high-impact polypropylene. Rolled edges and ribs under seat for extra strength. Nominal flex plus textured surfaces provide good posture support and discourage slouch seating. Four molded-in sills on underside of shell attach to spider with hi-lo screws. Upholstery available (see following option).

6. Dorsal Shell
Two-piece injection-molded thermoplastic seat and backrest with textured seat and backrest surface, on front only. Seat and backrests are joined by a maintenance-free steel hinge with integral spring mechanism which allows the upper back to articulate back with pressure. The hinge to be covered with high-strength plastic bellows. Four molded-in sills on underside of seat attach to spider with hi-lo screws. Upholstery available (see following option).

7. Vertebra Operational Shell
Seat and backrest of injection-molded thermoplastic. Automatic mechanism allows backrest to tilt and seat to slide forward and return to original rest position without the need for levers or controls. Backrest automatic tilting mechanism covered with high-strength rubber/vinyl bellows. Seat slide controls encased inside thermoplastic seat. Seat mounted on heavy-gauge steel beam. Available with erect pitch backrest and upholstery (see following option).

8. Optional Upholstery Pads
1000 and Dorsal series shells. Fixed seat cushion (FS) or fixed seat and back cushions (FSB) are mechanically fastened to front of shell. Foam padded with upholstery cover.

C. Armrests
Armrests are available as an option, on Piretti shells. A tubular steel frame supports cushioned and upholstered or self-skinning urethane armrests. The Piretti 2000 Managerial and Piretti 2000 Task are available with urethane armrests only. The support is bolted to the seat underside and powder-coated to match other hard surface elements. Arms are field installable.

D. Colors
Frame finishes - Powder-coated finish is standard on all frames in a choice of black, sand, warm grey and blue grey. Plastic trim components match the four standard powder-coated colors. Standard KI fabrics available; C.O.M. (customers own material) fabrics require factory approval.

Note: Floor mounting anchors are not provided.
