MURUS POLYURETHANE FOAM CORE STRUCTURAL INSULATING PANELS
Polyurethane Foam Core. The closed-cell foam provides superior R-values, strength, and thermal performance. Murus Polyurethane foam does not contain formaldehyde or CFC's, and has a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP). Polyurethane Panel Manufacturing Process. The proprietary Murus manufacturing method, Uniform Dispersion Molding (UDM) is a key component to creating our Polyurethane SIPs' superior characteristics. The UDM method enhances the properties of the foam and creates the strongest possible bond between the skins. The liquid foam is injected (dispersed) uniformly on the bottom skin (from side to side and end to end) as the mold moves past the injection point. After injection and before the foam starts to expand, the mold is placed into a press where it is contained until the foam is cured. The reaction of the foam (expansion and polymerization) takes approximately two minutes to complete. The rapid expansion creates up to 14 psi of pressure in the mold, which produces the tongue and groove profile edge on the panel, and enables the incorporation of the cam-lock connectors. The combination of uniform dispersion and pressure molding produces a spherical cell in the foam, rather than an elongated cell. A spherical cell is preferred because it provides uniform strength in all directions without concern for cell orientation. A spherical cell ensures that the foam is consistent throughout the entire panel. Cam-Lock System. Murus's patented, high impact plastic Cam-Lock joining system speeds assembly and saves substantially on installation time as compared with other SIP systems, and can offer even greater time savings over conventional stud wall construction. Cam-locks aid in achieving a uniform positive seal between panels, helping to eliminate possible moisture and air infiltration. Cam-locks are located every two feet up the length of the panel, and in conjunction with the standard tongue-and-groove connection, create an exceptionally strong, superior building envelope. Tongue and Groove Edge Profile. A tongue and groove edge profile is molded into every Murus Polyurethane SIP, assuring quick, proper alignment of panel-to-panel joints. Once installed and sealed with spray foam, the tongue and groove connection provides a continuous uniformity of insulation that is lacking in spline connection SIP systems. Superior Structural Strength. Murus Polyurethane SIPs provide a continuous whole-wall system that is superior in structural strength to conventional construction systems. Electrical Chase. A standard electrical chase is embedded horizontally in the foam core of the Murus SIP during manufacturing. Three standard chase height options are available. Additional chase heights can be added: for example, a dedicated chase for countertop receptacle switches or communication wiring. Optional Factory Pre-cutting. Murus offers state-of-the-art precision factory CNC pre-cutting services. Whole wall or roof sections are pre-assembled. Then we pre-cut window and door openings, adjust the overall panel lengths, and rout the panel foam cores to accommodate inlet plates and nailers. The panels are then disassembled and labeled to correspond with pre-cut drawings (included) for on-site assembly and installation. This service can save time and labor, and will cut on-site waste volume and waste disposal expense. Superior Insulating Value for Energy Savings. With superior R-values per inch of thickness and consistent insulation through composite construction, a Murus Polyurethane SIP building envelope will offer significant savings on both heating and cooling energy, and perform better than other building systems in which air infiltration and thermal bridging are inherent. In addition, because Murus SIPs are so highly energy efficient, smaller-sized heating and cooling equipment may be installed for further savings. Green Building Qualified. Because of their ability to significantly reduce heating and cooling loads, Murus SIPs lessen the consumption of fossil fuels, saving our limited resources and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Murus SIPs are ideal for Green building projects as recognized by and listed in the GreenSpec Directory, an independent agency specializing in qualifying green construction products. LEED. Incorporating Murus SIPs into a building design can potentially contribute certification points to a project – as many as 25 points for LEED-NC, and up to 46.5 points for LEED for Homes. Environmentally Responsible. Murus Polyurethane foam contains no CFC's, HCFC's, or formaldehyde or other ozone-depleting compounds and is an organic material. The Murus Polyurethane SIP system requires less dimensional lumber, thereby reducing the demand for harvesting of old-growth trees. The OSB skins used in the manufacture of Murus Polyurethane SIPs are made of wood strands harvested from fast growing SFI certified plantation raised or managed forest timber that can be planted and harvested in just a few years. ![]()
Fast Installation. The composite construction of Murus SIPs ensures faster shell-in times. Fire Resistance. The Murus Polyurethane foam core has a Class 1 Fire Resistance Rating-the best available for combustible materials. Because a Murus SIP is solid, there is no cavity in a SIP wall or roof to permit a "chimney effect" which promotes and hastens fire spreading, and is inherent with open cavity enclosure systems. Lifetime Warranty. The Murus Limited Lifetime Warranty backs Murus Polyurethane SIPs against delamination between the foam core and the skins.
