ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions
BEACON™ -- Blazing a New Pathway to Safety Life-safety codes throughout the country have taken steps to improve building egress by increasing the visibility of exit pathways. ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solution’s family of LiteGuide products supplement these emerging codes by infusing new technologies into doors, frames and hardware. The latest of these life-safety innovations is the Beacon exit device from SARGENT. Synchronized audio and visual alerts built into SARGENT’s Beacon™ exit device create a multi-sensory and intuitive guide to safety. Beacon features a built-in laser, strobe light, audible message and electroluminescent lamp all working in tandem to lead building occupants toward emergency exits. Multi-Sensory Alerts The combination of audio and visual alerts provides the most comprehensive system for pointing out locations of emergency exits in low visibility conditions. Beacon connects to a building’s alarm system and when activated, emits a pulse of light and white noise followed by messages declaring, “exit building here.” A laser is then beamed from the exit device, providing a path to the illuminated exit device touchbar. The lighting technologies employed in Beacon are highly visible in smoke and other low visibility conditions. In addition, the laser projects a cone of light that acts as a visual funnel leading to the door. The white noise combines a variety of sound frequencies to cut out background noise and allow people to focus on Beacon’s emergency message. The audible alert allows occupants to locate the exit in complete darkness. Beacon is both strong and durable to provide reliable security in addition to the device’s enhanced life-safety features.
LiteGuide™ Beacon is the next generation of technology in ASSA ABLOY’s family of LiteGuide™ products. LiteGuide addresses emerging building codes that seek to increase visibility of emergency exits. Recent tragedies have shown that in panic situations, building occupants tend to miss or overlook emergency exits. LiteGuide, offered on products from CECO, CORBIN RUSSWIN, CURRIES, FLEMING, SARGENT and YALE, attempts to overcome this problem by illuminating the doors, frames and hardware with photoluminescent and electroluminescent lighting.LiteGuide illuminates the perimeter of the door frame as well as the actual means of egress--the lock or exit device--giving a clear view of the entire doorway and turning the locking hardware into an easy target to push and exit the building. EXIT signs are easily obscured by rising smoke and are often overlooked in the panic, confusion and poor visibility that accompany an emergency situation. LiteGuide compensates for these natural limitations of traditional exit signs, giving building owners a solution to a major life safety problem. LiteGuide is available with both photoluminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) technology. Highly visible in smoke, LiteGuide EL utilizes state-of-the-art technology developed by E-Lite Technologies. LiteGuide EL is illuminated utilizing the patented FLATLITE® electroluminescent lamp embedded within the door frame and locking hardware. The green-blue electroluminescent light of LiteGuide is three to five times greater visibility from considerable distances than any other light source and does not affect night vision. EL is ideal for applications with low ambient lighting or where there is a need for controlled activation. LiteGuide PL products incorporate a strontium-based photoluminescent finish. Ambient light is absorbed by the PL coating and emitted when the light source is diminished or eliminated. LiteGuide PL is ideal for applications with high amounts of ambient light or areas of the country that specifically require photoluminescent egress markings.
