Tempered glass doors are "all glass" doors which feature a top and bottom rail which secures the glass to the operating mechanism. Rails can be made in stainless steel, bronze or aluminum. Bronze and stainless rails are a minimum of 4-3/4" height and standard aluminum are 4-3/4" top shoe and 4-3/4" (or) 10" bottom shoe. 1/2" tempered glass is used for doors up to 9' 0". 3/4" tempered glass is used for doors from 9' 0" to 10' 0".

The Door That's Easy to Open - The hinge stile travels inward as the door is opened. This motion actually minimizes wind loads and stack pressure.

The Door That Saves Space - The elliptical path of the door requires significantly less street or vestibule floor space than conventional swing doors.

The Design That Permits the Use of Large or Heavy Doors - Nullify the weight of a heavy door with balanced operation, while reducing wear and tear on mechanical operators.

A Headache-Free Checking System - Floor checks are eliminated and easy to remove overhead hardware permits fast maintenance procedures.

ADA Compliance
Ellison Balanced Doors meet minimum A.D.A. specifications without the use of power door operators. The design concept permits a spring load yielding less than the recommended 8 lb. pull pressure. Additionally, the standard hydraulic door check is available with an adjustable delayed action closing speed which can be set to allow wheelchair users and other physically challenged individuals up to twenty seconds before the normal closing cycle begins. The door opening pattern meets the 90° requirement set forth in A.D.A. The code specifies a 32" (min.) clear width opening. To meet this specification Ellison requires a minimum door opening of 72" for pairs of doors, or 36-3/4" for single doors with a door stop at the strike jamb.

In 1976 the Federal Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board categorized various door types by ease of accessibility. After moving-air barriers and sliding power-operated doors, it found balanced doors to be the best alternative. In many circumstances, the addition of power operators may be desired. Ellison doors interface with most operators without expensive modifications to the doors.
