Cantilever Wind Column
A cantilever wind column consists of a structural channel member that is welded to the outside of the primary frame column at a brace bay location, substituting for traditional “X” bracing on the sidewall.  This assembly includes an oversize base plate and requires heavier and longer anchor bolts than normal footings.  It cannot be used with inset or flush girts.

The anchor bolts and footings are thus designed to resist the overturning moment at that point and thus accept the wind load that would normally be taken up by the sidewall “X” bracing.

NOTE:  The footing requirements of a cantilever wind column are substantially heavier than other bracing methods and this should be noted in the design process.
