THE BEST DEFENSE FOR HURRICANE PROTECTION

TCW 250 IMPACT RESISTANT ALUMINUM CURTAINWALL

Trainor Glass Company is a family owned and operated business incorporated in Illinois since 1953. We currently have branches in New Jersey/New York, Georgia and Florida. Since Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida in 1992, Trainor Glass Company has been pro-active in the design and implementation of impact resistant systems to meet the newer and tougher building codes of South Florida. These systems must withstand the rigorous testing required by the building code, which includes a 2" x 4" being shot at the glass at 35 mph. There must be modifications made to the glass and the aluminum framing in order for a system to be capable of passing the rigors of the testing. Trainor Glass has positioned itself as one of the leaders in the industry by developing these systems which afford the glazing contractor a system that can be installed much faster than the conventional methods and the opportunity to avoid any leaks. All the glass is designed to be adhered to the aluminum by means of silicone, which provides a watertight seal around the perimeter of the glass.

Trainor Glass uses only the best materials to provide the highest quality in service and workmanship. We have developed good relationships with all of our key vendors to facilitate any expediting required.

STANDARD TESTS TO MEET SOUTH FLORIDA BUILDING CODE CRITERIA

LARGE MISSILE IMPACT TEST
(for windows, doors, skylights, glazing and shutters between grade and 30 feet above grade)

OR

SMALL MISSILE IMPACT TEST
(for windows, doors, skylights, glazing and shutters above 30 feet above grade)

FOLLOWED BY:

CYCLIC PRESSURE
(applied to all three specimens following large or small missile impact test: duration of each cycle is 1.3 seconds: all inward-acting pressure cycles are applied first followed by outward-acting cycles)

INWARD-ACTING PRESSURE OUTWARD-ACTING PRESSURE
Range Cycles Range Cycles
0.2Pmax-0.5Pmax 3,500 0.3Pmax-1.0Pmax 50
0.0Pmax-0.6Pmax 300 0.5Pmax-0.8Pmax 1,050
0.5Pmax-0.8Pmax 600 0.0Pmax-0.6Pmax 50
0.3Pmax-1.0Pmax 100 0.2Pmax-0.5Pmax 3,350

Pmax is design wind pressure (inward and outward) from the building code, based on an unbreached building envelope.

PASS/FAIL CRITERIA:

All three specimens must survive the missile impacts without penetration. If no tear or crack longer then 5", or opening through which a 3" sphere can pass, has formed in any of the three specimens upon completion of the pressure cycles, they are deemed to have passed the test.
