ArgoEdgeSealPLUS®
Protects TPU and PVB interlayer films as well as optical substrates used in architectural and security glass laminations from degradation due to penetration by moisture, cleaners and solvents found in sealants and caulks, which can lead to fogging around the composite edges. Also cushions and protects laminated glass composites bonded with TPU and PVB interlayer films from minor chipping during handling and installation.
DESCRIPTION
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS® is a four-part composite made of:
- 35-mil layer of clear adhesive aliphatic polyurethane sheet that, under the high temperature and vacuum of the autoclaving process, flows and then bonds to the edge of the laminated glass composite;
- 1-mil proprietary patent pending* foil layer is sandwiched between the two TPU sheets to provide enhanced moisture and chemical resistance;
- 15-mil outer layer of black, temperature-resistant aromatic polyurethane sheet;
- clear polypropylene carrier, embossed with a diamond pattern, imparts a corresponding pattern to the outer 15-mil layer of polyurethane sheet when left on during the autoclave process. It may be removed prior to autoclaving for a smooth finish. The polypropylene carrier is removed prior to final installation of the laminated glass composite
- Argotec's original BOC-9450 Edge Seal™ product is also available for specification, purchase and installation. Its construction is identical to ArgoEdgeSealPLUS™, minus the foil layer
- The end result is a 50-mil TPU "bumper" that reduces the potential for mechanical damage during downstream handling and installation, and also serves as a multilayer barrier to the often harsh chemical environments of the laminated glass composite's end use
USES and APPLICATIONS
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 Edge Seal can be employed to protect any laminated glass composite that is produced using an autoclave process (glass to glass; glass to polycarbonate; glass to acrylic; glass to other optical substrates)
FEATURES and BENEFITS
- The foil layer sandwiched between the two layers of polyurethane sheet give ArgoEdgeSealPLUS greatly enhanced resistance to penetration by moisture, window cleaning solutions and solvents used in window sealants and caulks
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 Edge Seal are fully compatible with all popular optical composite substrate materials (e.g., unlike PVB, TPU will not degrade polycarbonate substrates used in bullet- and blast-resistant composites)
- Both products are also fully compatible with all commonly specified glass lamination interlayer films (TPU/polyurethane; PVB/polyvinyl butyral, etc.)
DESIGN and PERFORMANCE
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 Edge Seal can be specified on all laminated architectural and security glass composites produced via autoclaving
MATERIALS and FINISHES
- Both ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 Edge Seal are produced in master rolls 40-inches wide by 120-feet long. The master rolls are slit and provided in standard and custom rolls for the width of the laminated glass composite
- A smooth outer surface is achieved by removing the polypropylene layer before autoclaving
- An embossed surface with a diamond-shaped pattern is achieved by leaving the polypropylene layer on during autoclaving
- The outer layer of both Argotec edge seal products are black in color
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 are available in a variety standard widths. Custom-slit widths are also available upon request. Master rolls come 40-inches wide and 120 feet long

ASSEMBLY and INSTALLATION
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 Edge Seal have a one-year shelf life from date of shipment when stored in the original packaging under dry conditions below 90°F (32°C)
- Refrigeration is not required
- ArgoEdgeSealPLUS and BOC-9450 Edge Seal are affixed to the laminate edge using tape just prior to autoclaving
- The polypropylene carrier may be removed prior to final installation of the composite
