BIO-RETENTION SYSTEMS:

Large pavement areas in cities such as shopping malls and roadways create the largest storm water outfall pollution problems. Now contaminant Bio-retention Systems utilizing Permapave technology can be economically installed in any area, without loss of land. Stormwater runoff passes through the grates or pavers into the pit. All gross pollutants are kept on the surface and some micro pollutants are trapped within the permeable mass of the grate or pavers.

Remaining contaminants are trapped within the filtering media. Only pure water drains from each pit, directly into the aquifers, recharging depleted groundwater.

Permapave™ Curb Bio-retention systems are installed in the uphill side of, and immediately before a Stormwater collection pit. They can easily and economically be retrofitted into almost every existing curb.

Water flow along the gutter is diverted into the Curb Bio-retention System during rain events and is filtered then discharged either into the substrate to return to subterranean aquifers, or if the substrate is non porous or unstable, directly into the adjoining storm water collection pit.

When installed, the Permapave™ Curb Bio-retention Pit is filled with appropriate filtration media and covered with a trafficable Permapave™ Stormwater inlet Grate so land retains its normal use after installation.
